Daisy survives pit-bull attack

Silaria, you are sharp to have caught the wording of that sentence. Yes, I specifically said "leg injury" because I was not bitten. The deep gash below my knee occurred when the dog knocked me down. But I was able to jab at him with the tree branch before he could actually bite me or Daisy.

In a way, though, it's unfortunate that I wasn't bitten. If there had been an actual bite, Animal Control could declare the dog vicious and have it immediately destroyed. Since there was no bite, I suppose the owner could claim the dog was "only playing" and meant no harm (though I'm sure the police officer would dispute that!)

Glad you are okay physically, but the trauma of this attack will last with you for a while. If you have to, see your family doctor and report this attack. Lay some groundwork and paperwork, so if anything else come up, you have a paper trail with medical personnel as well as the law.

Even though you were not bitten, you were knocked down by his attack, and that leg injury is a direct result of his attack. Document, Document, Document!

Wow, that sounds terrifying. So glad no one was badly hurt. I hope this attack means that your neighbour takes more responsibility for their dogs!

Emmasmom is right. Document everything! Make sure to take photos of your leg and go see a doctor. Even if it is just a scratch, there needs to be a record that you had an injury and it was looked at by a doctor.

I just wanted to post and say that I am glad that you and Daisy were not seriously injured. What a scary event. Glad you have pepper spray--be careful out there.

I am so sorry that you were injured....and that the situation is not over.

That's probably the worst part...it ain't over yet.

Did the policeman report to you what charges are going to be filed?

Make a list of any costs (torn clothing, med bills, etc) and photo document any injuries. Contact your local animal control officer to see what sort of follow-up they are planning.

I am so sorry you were injured but happy your pup is ok. Chandler was charged by a pit bull at our park when he was 3 and this dog shook him like a ragdoll luckily a gentleman nearby kicked the dog and he released Chandler before he was harmed too bad physically. He was never the same again. Please be careful.

How scary and awful! Can you find another place to walk your dog? So sorry you have to go through this, it is my worst fear. I have alot of dogs on our road, but they all have responsible owners, how lucky is that?

That is such a scary situation, so glad that injuries were at a minimum but do take care of yourself. I am sure you are still shaken from the ordeal, I know I would be. Has Daisy managed to settle now that it's over?
