Sending healing thoughts and prayers to you and Darla and wishing for a speedy discovery / recovery. Yes, please do keep us posted on progress. Wishing you a quiet uneventful night and better day tomorrow.
Darla was even more uncomfortable looking this morning so I took her straight down to the animal hospital. The vet has just called me with the results. Good news is there is no sign of a blockage or anything obvious causing any problems. Bad news, more test results have come back with indicate she is suffering with pancreatitis! The vet said dogs who are usually fed a high fat diet can develop it.
Now we never feed table scraps or anything weird to our dogs, they eat their Applaws and sometimes have a treat of chicken. Darla has been on a diet and has lost 1kg in total (she is around 10 kg now) so she was overweight, but since starting the Applaws I have managed to get her to lose it. I feel absolutely awful that her weight could have caused this I have also looked up the fat content in the Applaws and it's 20%. Is this to high? I wanted to get her on a good diet, I just hope it isn't the cause of all her recent suffering.
I have just done some reading... It could be due to hypothyroidism so I have asked them to check her thyroid too just in case.
Glad to hear that you have a diagnosis to work on now and no surgery! I know of several shelties who have developed pancreatitis as young dogs. I'll try and find out if their owners have any advice or ideas on managing the condition and what food(s) they have found to be useful. Hope Darla is feeling more comfortable tonight
