Maybe I should have waited and then brought him home and had him put to sleep there....I did tell the vet I would like to have a day or so to do that that but they weren't encouraging. In fact, there was a tone of blaming me for having let it get to this? I didn't understand why she was so disapproving of me, like how stupid I was for not knowing it was cancer everywhere and I shouldn't be upset and shocked. that I should have expected this since he was 17.

Like doctors, a lot of veterinarians don't have a decent bedside manner.

I know what you mean. I also think general vets are more likely to recommend pts. Not that I blame them, but Tully would have been gone years ago if I had relied on them and not the specialists. Obviously the specialists know when they can bring a dog back as they have both more specialist knowledge and the equipment - although it's all at a cost.
 
Medicine specialist said to give it 24 hours as they have only just started on the antibiotics. I went to see her but she slept most of the time - middle of the day though so that is her sleep time. I'm going to make some liquid-ish food to take in so they can still feed her while she's like this to keep her sustainance up. Fell asleep on the couch before, need a good night's sleep. I should probably not have sat up watching k-pop comedy series because I was hyped up happy that I was expecting to bring Tully home today.

So much has happened since then, but I've been too exhausted to update. After the IV infection Tully got aspiration pneumonia - something I had warned them about when I discovered they were not even getting her out of the cage to toilet. And then her back legs stopped working. The only positive was her kidney values went back to how it was before (stage 2 CKD). After 11, very expensive, days at the ER I asked to bring her home, she was just getting sicker in there and unhappy. And that's where we've been, me carrying her around (and dropping her - whoops), hand feeding and syringing a lot of medication.

Tully has rallied a lot. Her pneumonia is better, although not gone (apparently that's normal), she has her appetitite back, and is attempting to walk. The ortho specialist said she's probably got a prolapsed disc and has some neurological damage so prob won't walk again, he suggested it might be time. But I wanted to see Tully's long time animal physio first. And Tully decided she wasn't letting anything stop her. Last couple of days she's been walking around with my help (a rear lift harness), and I was shocked to find her outside in the cat enclosure when I got home from my physio! I cannot believe, blind and crippled as she is, that little girl found the dog door and got down steps and a ramp! knocked over a few potplants on the way and was stuck in a corner not sure how to get back, but OMG.

I think Tully has pretty much decided she's going to kick on for a while longer. She'll be 17yrs in 3mths.

Oh and I got a severe leg infection (cellulitis) during all of this so had a fever and very unwell in the middle of it all - being sick and alone is tough.
