Debarked Dogs

I'm glad you both posted these videos!!! I was considering having my de-barked, but, I don't see much point to it if they're still that noisy!!!:eek2:
 
mine are still audible but its a lesser shrill of a bark that carries, while I can hear her barking, growling..etc my neighbors are less apt to hear her bark that carries...

all I have to say is thank god Noah doesnt bark to the extent that she does because he would have been de-barked at 6 months old...his bark is soo high pitched it hurts your ears...:eek2:

Indeed. Not unlike our 'Guardian' legislation and some town's breed specific Pit Bull ordinances, our little state seems to specialize in passing somewhat vague 'feel good' legislation, (to placate certain groups), whose meaning is poorly understood even by those who passed it. - Dr. Mac
 
The links worked fine on my iPad. They say a debark sounds like a wheeze or a cough. Well my oh my these shelties sound almost like normal barking shelties. I remember hearing a debarked chihuaha and it sounded like a whisper.

But my parents recently turned 15 year old dog still gets yelled at to shut up, even having been debarked for 13 of those years. Not like he can hear us anyway. We tried citronella with him too, he liked it. Penny can? Didn't phase him. Sometimes they are just compulsive.

I don't use gimmicky things anymore, because I don't have to. My dogs only bark outside, and it doesn't matter!

Both my guys are debarked and I so totally agree with how Clantrysheltie put it!!! Shadow's debark is ok and when he barks it still is annoying but much better than it was.Sting I had done this year.He had the piercing bark that went right throug you.My neighbors are happy and so am I.There are only two vets in the state of Conn. that does it.The other day at the dog park there was a couple who said to me Oh your dogs barks are quite and I said they are debarked and of course they said well I dont believe in that and they kepy making comments so I finally say to them I don't believe in over feeding dogs and yours is way over weight.
 
I had a guy at a dog show recently, an exhibitor, tell me how awful it was that Sheltie people were "slitting dogs throats". I said "oh, that's an awful way to kill them, why not just take them to the vet to be euthanized" (I knew exactly what he was talking about, but I am nothing if not a sarcastic bitch). He said no, debarking them. I gave him a confounded look (this one: http://d37nnnqwv9amwr.cloudfront.net/entries/icons/original/000/005/545/OpoQQ.jpg) and asked him if he actually knew what the procedure entailed, and if he would like me to explain it to him. Suddenly, he had someplace else to be. Idiot.
