Delilah hates walks!!!

Okay, so i have a 9 month old Sheltie and every time i attempt to take her for a walk she literally squirms out of her harness and runs back to my front door. I've been reading up and i can't find a logical answer to this, i just want my little baby to be open to the world and not be afraid of everything.

There can be so many reasons a doggie doesn't want to walk off their property...ranging from lack of wide range socialization as a small pup to having had something scary happen outside that makes them afraid of venturing into the big world. Can you give us more info on Delilah's background?

For safety's sake, you should get a harness or collar she cannot back out of. Martingale collars are good because they tighten slightly. If you prefer a harness, the Ruffwear Webmaster harness is inescapable (Amazon, REI, and I think Bass carries them).

Has she always done this? It could also be the adolescent fear period. Or she could hate harnesses. Or she may never have learnt to walk as a puppy.

Does she like to play? Then use the same process you would with a puppy. If so, play in the house with her harness on first (harness = fun). Then walk over the threshold where she starts to baulk, make it fun, have a play and walk back. Increase the amount of time and the distance you go each day.
