Hi could someone tell me the differance between a black/white & bi/black sheltie?
P.S. Could anyone advise me of a good book on shelties? went to the local pet smart & tisol pet stores they had books on many breeds but not one on shelties
P.P.S. Saw my first in the flesh shaved sheltie at pet smart:rolleyes2:what a shame to do that to a sheltie.

Black shelties may either be tri-colored, in which case you'll see tan points on the eyebrows, cheeks, shoulders, butt, etc OR they may be bi-black in which case their only colors will be black and white.

Here's a picture of Figaro standing behind his son Goodness. If you look you can clearly see Figaro's tan points on his cheeks: he is a tricolor sheltie. By contrast, his son Goodness has no tan markings: he is a bi-black sheltie.

The bi-black sheltie is sort of the equivalent of a red-headed blue-eyed human child. It is the expression of the most recessive traits in sheltie coloring.

black and white shelties are bi-black shelties.

my favorite sheltie book is Sheltie Talk! I also love The Shetland Sheepdog In America and Shetland Sheepdogs at work. Oh and for grooming I love the Illustrated Guide To Sheltie Grooming

All but Sheltie Talk (currently out of print) can be found at http://www.sheltietalk.net/

Ditto on Sheltie Talk and the Illustrated Guide.

Sheltie Talk is great! I got mine used on Amazon. I thought I heard awhile back that it was going to go back to print sometime soon.

I've got other Sheltie books, but they are so basic that they are not worth the money.
