Digging up my yard!!

not digging to China, enjoys ants as a snack food

Kaleigh likes to dig in the sand where the ants have mounds. She digs down to eat them, and play with them as they scatter. My other shelties didn't do this, but then I am finding nothing has prepared me for this pup, she is always into things that neither of my previous dogs ever dreamed up. They never went after bugs or flying insects, to Kaleigh a butterfly in flight is better than any ball game. She tries to catch them, and hummingbirds are a favorite as well. She also seems to enjoy worms as a snack, ICK. Anything found under the soil is a treat in her way of thinking. Most dogs bury bones, mine likes to bury small rocks, which I don't get either, and she is particular about which ones. Goofy girl

Both mine do it!

My first sheltie is a big digger since the first day at home (2 months old), after that the girl arrived and he teached her how to dig deeper and deeper.....uf!

I try to stop digging in the garden and sometimes is hard to do, so I keep them inside the house when we can't supervise them in the garden (we also have poisoned plants which are more dangerous for them....). They need to dig, so I go for a walk to the beach each day and I let them to dig all the time they want (they will probably arrive China soon :wink2:!) so they get satisfied and I have noticed that they don't need so much digging in the garden.

The idea of poo inside the hole doesn't fit our shelties, specially the male who is still a poo-eater :ick
