Do Shelties recognize..............

I don't think Bailey notices shelties. Although, her first time opening up to dogs was during the NJ Sheltie Rescue Picnic. Bailey does recognize bigger dogs and will not play with them.
 
Not only their own breed, but their own color.

When Molly had her last litter, she had 5 (lost 1) tri's and 2 blues. She played with the blues more often than anything.

When my Grandmother had her dogs, she had 4 (sometimes more!) sables, and one or two tri's, and the sables always ganged up on the tri. Always.

I think they get THAT snobbish behaviour from US! We all KNOW that Shelties are the best! It must rubb off on them! :yes::wink2:
 
But when we go to confirmation shows and Tully meets her siblings she doesnt reconise them as being siblings. We even did training with Tully's sister from a previous litter and I dont think she could tell.

Just to throw in my $.02, my dog Lady definitely recognizes another sheltie but doesn't seem to recognize her own sister (a littermate) who lives around the corner. She also seems to have an affinity for other herding breeds.
 
Bailey and Joey go to doggy daycare every Friday and they definitely prefer to play with the other two shelties there, Coulton and Missy. I do think they know that they are "related." :wink2:

Same here.I really can't compare Trapp to any other sheltie,cause I only know of one person here in Cheraw with one.And I would never let Trapp near her,because of how she has been handled all her life.

But Earnhardt is very vocal & he shows his protective attitude when faced with a dog of his size.And it does'nt matter what breed.I only really see it,if the other dog is showing signs of postureing,or agressiveness.I've never seen him in a fight,don't think I really would want to either.

As far as the medium to tiny breeds,well he's just mush~

pup initially was apprehensive around other dogs but went to friend 's shelties like he'd known them all his life... I am sure it is somewhat related to comparing them with parents but still...
it is also might be more related to the way how dogs play- shelties would prefer chase games and other dogs have different games more wrestling type...
I just noted to my hubby who is main pooch park representative that is was hilarious to see how Che approached his pooch park... he came and was standing by the outside side of fence waiting for us... so bunch of other dogs came over... " Hi... so nice that you came... glad to see you... come on in and play with us... " to which pup answered " I am coming buds" with his own body language and so we went...after multiple "handshakes"... sniffing, they all went running...
in few short days pup created group of friends from all various breeds, none of them are sheltie and none of them are actually much into chase games...
many of the owners play ball chasing games with their dogs so Che is chasing dogs that chase balls...
 
Zoe gets excited to play with any breed; however, in classes we've noticed all the black & white dogs "hang out" together. So maybe it is a marking thing...

I agree! I noticed it first at Puppy School. The beagle, pugs, Jack Russell, etc. all wanted to grapple each other to the ground, so poor Bacca would just run around them in circles....."Won't somebody come play chase???" . It even seemed like his "I want to play" cues were different from the other pups.

It was pathetic, really! He looked so forlorn at those times, with all the other pups ignoring him! :sadsmile::smile2:
