certain dogs foods might actually attract certain things (like ticks) to your dog?

I used to feed my dogs nutro and occassionally found a tick on my babies. Three months ago I switched to Halo and all of a sudden my dogs are covered in ticks. Giving them baths in flea and tick shampoo and using Advantix does nothing now. It may just be coincidental that they seem to be getting tons more ticks even after spraying the house and the yard after we changed to a Holistic food. It is driving me nuts that just their food has changed in the past year. Last year on Nutro they had maybe one or two ticks but this year they have had like clusters of ticks in their shoulder area. Like three or four clumped together.

There has not been a lot of rain here so it is not like the rains are bringing them out. The exterminator said ticks can live in the ground for up to 17 years...that sure did not make me feel any better

I would say that it has nothing to do with the food that you are feeding them. You just happen to have a tick colony living in your yard. I have never heard that food makes a difference as to whether or not they are attracted to animals. I think if that was the case, deer wouldn't get ticks, they don't eat dog food. I hope you get rid of them soon!

garlic has been known to repel fleas, ticks and mosquitoes. Perhaps you might like to try sprinkling a bit of garlic powder on your dogs food and see if that helps your problem at all.

I know that Vitamin B1 gives off an odor when taken that repels mosquitos and fleas in dogs and humans. Apparently bugs can smell whatever odor it emits and stay away from the source. My vet swears by Vitamin B1 and showed me an research study about the effects it has when taken. Since it is water soluable it is not dangerous for pets.

I also know that people tend to be odiferous dependiing on what they eat , but humans have pores and sweat and dogs do not. This was why I wondered if perhaps the food might be somewhat repsonsible...attracting these horrid ticks They make my skin crawl.

I am hoping after this weekends marathon shampooing with fles and tick shampoo and the house and yard being sprayed that it helps.
