An echo of the above poster- mine love sleeping on tiles in the cool mud room or under roller chair using the legs as pillows. We have a very soft Brooklyn bed they use occasionally but in the summer it is just whereever we are and they stay pretty much on the floor/rugs. I thing the Brooklyn bed will see more use when they get older but now at 4 ys they are hard pillow loving, tile sleeping dogs..our male hangs with us while the female always pick cool- again usually in the mud room. We feed ours in their crates and occasionally they will go there to sleep in peace and quiet.

My sentiments exactly. I've still got a brand-new doggie car seat that I bought during the time when I was all excited about getting Mr. Pip and started buying every accessory I could think of. And yes, there's the issue of coolness. They always gravitate toward the coolest spots!
I think what I'll do is cobble something together for the time being. I've got a 3-inch memory-foam mattress topper that's been sitting in the basement for the past four years. I'll cut a nice piece out of that and get one of those inexpensive dog-bed covers, and see how he likes it!

That's a lot of beds! But I suspect that having a soft surface to lie on helps prevent those ugly callouses they get on their elbows. Dickens was almost always on the hardwood floor, and every time he got up (which was frequently) I think he chafed those areas. His long hair helped cover them, but they were there nonetheless.

One thing that works and is pretty inexpensive is the memory foam bathmats that are in many stores. Juno is fast asleep on one right now and she really likes it.

So the question is pretty much answered so now for a feel lucky Spitfire does not live at your house moment. When I got Sca he got dog beds and loved them, until. Well one night he would go wild and flip his bed and push it around. That was the signal of bed death as within a couple nights it was tore up. Along came Spitfire who absolutely loved beds. Got a 'indestructible' Kong bed and it lasted a little while with Spitfire immediately claiming it. But I got tired of beds lasting less than a month so no bed for Spitfire. After Sca passed I figured hey Spitfire can have a bed now. He has not been in one a single time. He does love his fan though and is passed out in front of it now.

Mr. Pip has one of those big fuzzy bones exactly like the one in your first photo! It originally belonged to "Little Boo-Boo," my part-Sheltie who died in 2012, and immediately became the property of Dickens, who bequeathed it to Mr. Pip. Awwww. I am very protective of the little stuffed elephant toy that was Asta's when she came home. Did not let any of the succeeding Shelties chew on it. Just too sentimental. But a braid of fleece material has lasted through 5 Shelties now with Juno the latest to love it and chew on the ends.

Oh that sleeping picture is just too too cute! What a great bone. We have one in a smaller version. Mine seem to outgrow the toys after puppyhool except for Misty who will occasionally snack on them, just enough to give me stress.

Funny you should mention that--I had a queen 3" memory foam topper I had replaced with a new one and rather than throw it out I saved it for making dog beds. I was tired of store bought beds that the stuffing went flat and dealing with zippers, or no way to clean it at all! So I cut a large piece, added three bolsters using a special adhesive for memory foam (that cost as much as a bed LOL) called Loctite High performance spray adhesive. Then I found cute dog couch throws at Walmart for like 5 bucks each, and just wrapped them around the beds. It doesn't look perfect but I don't care, all I have to do is grab the blanket and throw it in the washer!
