Dog food analysis spreadsheet

Yeah, actually come to think of it I think I paid like $30 for a 10lb bag at my local feed store...might have to switch to their old food... TOTW though, as my dogs' stools have been kinda crappy...pun not intended lol.

Barb, I agree. This started out as just a comparison of a couple foods and it sort of got out of hand! If I had started out intending to share with everyone, I would have definitely gotten a bit more detailed. But now I'm too lazy to go back and look up all those foods again! :lol:

But, since I don't have a job and am always looking for something to do...what columns would you add?

I'm not sure, but my tummy says there has to be more to help make an informed decision. I'm just too tired tonight to think about it. Maybe it just needs expansion on the 1st 3 or 4 ingredients?????

If you know how to "sort" using Excel, this is a very useful tool that she has started. I'm sure the forum can help expand on it.

I think using amazon as a price point is a good start for comparison.
 
Right now, my biggest "issue" with the spreadsheet is that it only takes a sample from each brand. So although Acana Ranchlands (31% protein) is a good food, and a good example, it may vary greatly from its counterpart, Acana Wild Prairie (33%) protein.

So if I'm making a cut off of say, 32% protein, do I include or exclude Acana? Basically, I can't think of a way of showing this information short of averaging (too much work) or displaying all (WAY too much work).
 
When I had tried to do this I included each formula of a brand that I might consider as a separate entry. I did that because it was a way to compare within brands and between brands. I was surprised at the variability between formulas of a given brand.

Yes, that is definitely the most informative way to do it. I just got lazy :biggrin2:
 
I think the intent is that we can each use this as a template to build upon for our own purposes. I think its a great starting poing that I will use myself as I continue my research.
 
I have improved my spreadsheet as well as corrected a few mistakes.

It is now more interactive than it was before. It now allows you to select your criteria, then highlights those foods that meet your criteria. I have also added several more foods and flavors.

If you have any special requests for foods or flavors that you do NOT see, let me know and I will be happy to add them.
