The down one I have does have a hood that is insulated and lined with soft polarfleece. It's very cozy and warm. I don't know about the squall parka's hood, you would have to call and ask them. That is too bad about the shipping to Canada. I hope you can find it there!

I have a TNA winter jacket which I bought at Aritzia. I have had it for almost 4 years now with daily use in the winter and it still looks and works like new. These jackets are pretty popular and come in various lengths and styles. The one I have is long and ends just above my knees. It also has a lined hood with a removable faux-fur trim. It has two large main pockets in the front with several other pockets throughout and is very warm. Unfortunately, they do not have an option to buy online yet but the store that sells them, Aritzia, is pretty common in southern Ontario.

Another popular brand I would recommend is Canada Goose. These jackets are specifically designed to keep you warm in cold weather while still being practical and fashionable. However, they are pricey. Here's one that seems to describe what you are looking for:

I bought a downfilled parka, super light weight from the Tommy Hilfilger warehouse store last winter. It has a detachable hood, super light, super warm, hip length. Love this coat. It's comfortable inside the car and outside on walks and everywhere inbetween.

Down is definitely what you want, not matter which company you buy from. It's light and you can even wear it inside without sweating a mountain!
 
I have two Lands' End coats: a mid-length down coat and the hip-length lined outrigger parka. The down is surprisingly non-fattening. :yes:

I love their stuff. Machine-washable, quality materials, and a great fit. I have a butt and getting jackets that fit over that but don't look like a tent everywhere else is challenging. The Lands' End stuff has not failed me. Especially with their outerwear I like that the fits always tend to be roomy so I can fit layers underneath. And lots of pockets for the ridiculous amount of stuff I take with me everywhere, not just on walks!

The best part about them is the On the Counter section on the website - some really, really good deals. I got my outrigger parka for I think about 20 bucks. Green, not my first choice (I wanted black), but given the regular price is about $60, I'm fine with green.

I've had columbia coats and yes, they are warm, but the one I have doesn't cover my bum and the pockets aren't what I'm looking for.

This is basically what I want (only my 20 year old coats aren't as ugly as this one.) I love the pocket in the middle and up higher. To me its what makes all the difference, but nowhere sells coats like this anymore. :(

Yeah, I don't think I've seen that style in stores. However, you can try to find them using Google Product Search:

I've done a quick search for them, but the jackets are uninsulated. Like you said, they are snowboarding jackets, so if you really want this style perhaps you can wear layers?

Alternatively, you can try North Face jackets. They seem to have some with pockets that are placed higher up:
