Dreampark in heat?

Well see, I also figured a lot of people will be scratching and therefore my day will go even faster. I looked at the running order and 16" jumpers is first at 8:30 and we're the 6th dog in. Our second run will be around 11 and we're the 7th dog in, so if lots of people scratch we might even be done before 11. It shouldn't be too terrible before noon hopefully.

I think you are making the right choice!

Good luck and most of all....have fun :biggrin2:

I would say it depends on the humidity level. If it's low, 103 isn't horrible. If it's humid, bleah, that makes it so much harder. I'd only do 103 if it's going to be drier than dry.

BTW, I just looked at the weather just now, says it'll be in the mid-80's with about 55% humidity. Looks like it should be a lot cooler than expected. Good luck.

Well it was 85-90 indoors and the first day we had sweat pouring off of us. Trax ran jumpers first and didn't Q. He missed his weave pole entry. Then we went back to the crating area and he threw up all over the place. Lost his breakfast and all the treats. Obviously the heat was not agreeing with him. I wet him down outside and then let him chill in front of a fan. Then we ran Standard and he Q'd and took third :smile2: (and got 27 MACH points)

Sunday was 95 outside and 85 indoors. For anyone that's not been around our area, there's no such thing as high heat and low humidity. It's hard to breathe when it gets hot around here. Nonetheless we ran on Sunday. First run was Standard and I was hoping to get a Q for our MX, but I kinda got behind him and he did the normal check back for mommy routine and when he turned back to the triple he was taking it at a bad angle. He jumped clear over the wing and it looked like he was actually gonna make it! But then he tipped the bar and it dropped. Otherwise awesome run! Then for Jumpers he spun on the way to a jump and even though he never lost forward momentum, this judge called it a refusal. He was calling them though if they just hesitated for a split second. Trax didn't hesitate but just spun once. Oh well, it was a good run otherwise :smile2:

Oh, that would be me. I just know generalizations about weather in big areas. Hot/humid in the south, crazy weather in the NE, wet in the PNW, dry in the SW. Sorry about that.

So, in that case, I'd like to revise my answer. Nope, I wouldn't run my dog in 100+ degree weather. In fact, I doubt I would have run my dog in 80+ degree heat indoors either. But that's me. I don't do so great in the heat. If anything, I'd be the one with heat stroke. I also probably wouldn't have run my dog if he threw up due to the heat either. But I'm sure you guys are more used to things like that (the heat/humidity and how to handle it).

However, I am very glad to hear that Trax was well enough to run after a bit of cooling off and that he Q'd and got 3rd place. Glad you two survived the weekend!

Dreampark in the heat??????????

Congrats Heather and Trax!!!I don't think I would have run him either but you know your dog better than anyone and he is obviously fine.Shadow handles the heat well and Sting also. This weather is so crazy anyways. We actually have a breeze right now and it feels good.

Well that was the first time I've ever done that so I figured what the heck, we'd see how it went. And now we know ;)

Just curious, would you do it again?

Just reading about your experience, I think to myself, that's crazy. But then, experiencing it, you may think it wasn't that bad......like I said, I've trialed in 108 degree heat before, it wasn't as bad as you would think. lol. the worst part of the day was me leash running the Excellent dogs. Now THAT was stupid.

Yep I'd do it again. It was hot, but with a cooler full of ice and cold rags, it was totally doable. Next time I wouldn't load him up on breakfast and all beforehand though.
