Ear Cleaning/Aloe Vera?

We just ran out ear cleanser and so are looking for a new solution (Olive needs her ears cleaned regularly, they're predisposed to collect itchy gunk) however I'm finding that most solutions have aloe vera (and a quick search of 'aloe vera dogs' shows people recommending it for hot sports?) My understanding is that aloe vera is toxic to dogs while ingested. Now she won't be nibbling on her own ear and the dry swab after each cleaning should pick up any excess, but I'm concerned that if she itches, it could transfer to her foot, and if she licks her food she could ingest some.

Am I being an alarmist- is aloe vera in ear cleanser alright? Is there an alcohol-free product that doesn't have aloe vera someone can recommend?
 
I would also look at what you are feeding. Itchy ears could be due to allergy. I don't know about the aloe for cleaning, but I do know the vinegar solution works for many.

We were thinking that initially (she had horrible skin when we got her and has a sensitive GI... very sensitive :no:) so we've tried different formulas, this one (acana grasslands) and her old one (merrick lamb) have done the best for her stomach and skin (acana better than merrick), the vet thinks it may just be her (she doesn't keep her ears up that much, carries them more back/flat/ tries to be yoda).

We may try the vinegar solution.
 
I've never used aloe vera for ear cleansing but we often use it for scratches/minor wounds on legs. Yes it's not recommended to use internally as it may cause bad laxative and other side-effects, but I guess you only have to use a tiny bit so there's nothing to worry about.
