Ear glue

Tear Mender. As it gets old it gets gummy and just rolls out of the hair. It dries super quick and a little tiny drop will do it. It is not a sticky type of glue. I've been able to get it outwith alittle bit of dish soap and water with no hair loss. Now if you go crazy and build walls of glue and hair, it is still hard to get out. :smile2:

I use speed sew and have been pretty happy with it from the perspective of staying together.

However, and maybe someone can comment on this, my puppy's ears seem to not be taking. I have been gluing them fro almost 3 months now (Oliver is 5 months old) and when I take the glue out, one ear is tipped correctly but the other is pricked.

Is this because he is not done teething yet? I'm not sure what else to do besides keep gluing them and hope that the other ear eventually stays down...

Not usual. Just keep gluing. Diva's ears still looked really wonky at 5 months. Don't leave them out for any length of time until after teething is done about 6.5 months. Only time, mine at out before that is if they come out during play or if I'm showing them. Alot of peole recommend bracing until a year. My dogs have ears that sit naturally high on their heads so I didn't have to brace the middle after 6 months. I only did the tips. Diva I stopped at 10 months. Ember at 6 months. Justice, I gave up at 9 months wish I'd gone longer.

That was me! I built the Berlin Wall between Bacca's ears! Then when it was time to remove the glue to fix the set, I had no choice but to cut it out! (I didn't have the detachol at the time). And because I cut so much hair out, I couldn't glue for a while because there was no hair to glue to! :rolleyes2:

I tried one more time after that, then finally decided it was all too late and gave up. In hindsight, I wish I'd stuck out longer (I think he was about 8 months when I gave itup).

Hair extension glue

Hair extension glue works great and there is remover designed specifically for it. It sets quickly, about 30 to 60 seconds and lasts for about a week between glueings. Total investment is about $5 at your local beauty supply store.

Proclaim White Super Bond Hair Glue worked better for me..and you can find it at Sally's Beauty Supply for $1.50 (it comes in two colors as well)

I've also tried the Speed-Sew but found that the Proclaim hair glue lasted longer (up to 2 weeks or more) and much more economical.

false eyelash glue

I tackled the wonky ears with false eyelash glue and remover, works well at holding dries fast, and can be removed with their remover or unisolve (Kaleigh HATES the smell of that stuff though it works faster) the eyelash glue remover needs time to saturate. She is 7 mths now and I started once the teething started, as her ears went super wonky immediately, they were tipped perfectly before, arghhhh. They are tipping, but one is still a bit resistant so I am gonna keep her glued until 8 mths or more. Her teeth are now all in, phew. I just want to make sure the ears stay...my previous shelties didn't need gluing. She is still growing like a weed so, finally getting some fur on her to cover her long legs that seemed to sprout overnight like beanstalks...:eek2:

This is what I am using for Baker & I'm happy with it so far. The remover I bought (also at Sally's) is a lotion, so Baker isn't bothered by the smell, and it's easy to work with. I do follow up after the removal with alcohol to make sure I get all that lotion off.

I've been using Tear Mender and have been very happy with it. I was using Detachol to remove, but recently started using Medi-Sol pads, which I prefer over Detachol.

no more wonky ear

so Kaleigh is now 7 mths, she is through the teething phase with a great grin (phew). She is still growing her fur coat-more ear fuzz coming in then she has had, but she pulled out the ear glue, and the wonky ear is no longer wonky. I think they are set. I am giving her a week of freedom to see if they stay and resist the urge to do unsheltie like positions. :biggrin2: She is in full fledged adolescence as far as behavior. She tests limits now, just to see if she can have her way, so the ears are not the main focus now. I want her outwardly adorable, but more so, I want a well mannered lil woof. She prefers to exert her independence, or shall I say stubborness, ha.

Lacey's ears are tipped now, but then she is only 10 weeks. I'm wondering if I need to start to glue now or not. I do want her to have tipped ears if possible. The breeder showed me how to glue them, but didn't say anything about any bracing.
