Ear question

Sorry too lazy to search and see if I can find the answer.

Romeo is almost 6 months old I had his ears glued when I sold him, now that he is back I want to work on his ears again. They have been out for 2 months so is it too late to set them? He currently has hound ears (see pic in my other thread) I dont know if bracing them will help now or if the cartalidge is already set.

All you can do is try. But I'd do a full brace and soften the leather daily with cocoa butter.

I wouldnt think so for hound dog ears. I started trimming Deska's hound dog ears when he was about 2yrs old and his ears have lifted since I've been doing that so I would say the cartlidge can strengthen even when older. His ears still flop more than the should but its still a vast improvement on what it was. Mind you, his ears didnt go hound dog until he was about a year old.

I have them braced I figure it cant hurt to try. his ears tip nicely they just lay to the side. They were glued when I sold him at 4 months and I dont know how long the glue stayed in but he still had some in his fur when she brought them back. I doesnt really matter too much since he is just a pet, but I do like nice ears on a sheltie.

How do you trim his hound ears? I've been following tips in the Illustrated Guide to Sheltie Grooming, but haven't quite got the knack yet.

Also - I would definitely keep bracing if he's only 6 months. I figure if I had kept going with Bacca, he's ears would not be sitting hound like they are now.

I can remember with Lady she was 7 months old when I stopped. When I bought her she was all glued up. I quess her ears could stand a bit higher, but her ears are little also.

I think you have a chance yet to get them set where you want them.

I don't know if this will help or not, but when I bought Ellie, she was 10 months old. I kept her ears glued down until she was over a year old. To no avail, her ears fly high, though not completely pricked. More like a lazy tip....
