Ear Taping - major fail!

Not sure it's the right forum.... have read all about ears on here. Bought Japanese tape, read, watched videos, major fail!

With young puppies, is it best/easiest for the inexperienced to glue first? If so, I've read about eyelash glue, sew mender - which is best?

Am I better off to wait a little bit till he's a tad older? His ears weren't even big enough for the tape sections shown in the instructions I had seen online.

Personally, I would not wait! I have felt your pain! I have gone from Glue to tape and back to glue again!

Ann posted the tutorial on ear glueing... good luck! Keep at it. It will pay off in the end!

I did a spot of glue to hold the flap down. The I twisted a strand of hair behind each ear and glued that to keep the ears erect. Worked great on Beckon!

I've done both and as Gloria said, I settled on glue as being far easier than tape. If you follow the tutorial, it's a five-minute process. So much easier for you and the puppy! The other suggestion I'd make is to contact your breeder if s/he is close...many will retape for you if you can get to them or at least help until you're better at it.

P.S. We start gluing/taping at 8 weeks so it's not too early!

Most people I know, including me, just put a dab of chewing gum on the end of the ears (just make sure it's not got Xylitol). Didn't work for Tully because Deska kept eating it off her ears, but it worked for Mr D. But if you're not showing and just want it for the soft look it's definitely the easiest way.

We glued Tara and Clara. We gave up with Rocket. He screamed during the entire ordeal. He fought every step of the way. We were finally successful! Clarabelle decided that it was sick and wrong that we should glue her son's ears and made it her mission in life to make sure the ears were free! "Free the ears! Free the ears!" She even wrote up a sign and put it on the mirror. (Okay, maybe not that part.) The War of Rocket's Ears was fought and lost after one battle. Some things are just not worth it.
