We did run out of treats a week ago, which I hardly give to him. My wife does feed him table scraps when I bring something home, or when we eat in. Check with the vet first to rule out a UTI. If all is well, you're probably getting duped! Our Bailey got me up early, early one morning because she really needed to go out. Once was a need, twice was a pattern and three times was a habit. The early morning air was cool, the rabbit tracks were fresh and hey, life was good. She was training me!

They certainly do that!

My dogs weekday schedule is very regimented. They know they won't get fed until I'm showered and dressed for the day.

Weekends: I like to wake up and sip coffee and read for an hour before I get up. One day they just wouldn't stop whining at me. So I fed them and went back to bed. Next weekend, same thing. Now they think its their "right" to get fed on the weekend when they say so and won't leave me alone until I cave! My mistake! I knew better.:rolleyes2:
 
I know I am a little slow on the replies, but thank you all for the ideas and concerns. He is due for two of his shots, so I should try to make the appointment for next week, or on a Saturday. What I do know, is that around 4 am, the birds do start to wake up so that could be a reason. He does not care for them though, but our terror dog just noticed them.
 
Oops, I forgot to say that I try to put the water up before I go to bed, but sometimes I forget due to work load, etc. I am trying to convince my wife to stop the table scraps, but it will take awhile for it to stop.
 
Any time my Sheltie has had a change in his "poo table" (yea thats right, I named his potty schedule the poo table) it's meant that something's not quite right.

If you can rule out the standard sicknesses, and other such stuff I'd probably just look for formula changes in the dog food to see if theres anything major happening there.

Generally a dog of that age should be able to "Hold It" an entire night assuming the dog sleeps. If he's not getting enough excersize during the day it's possible he spends most of the night you are sleeping awake in which case he will likely have to potty sooner than you might anticipate.

If none of that seems to explain your problems then maybe a routine visit to the vet might be in order to get examined. Just so you can rule out anything too severe.

I agree....after dealing with Dandie's GI issues this week and Chloe's ongoing UT issues, this is definitely true.
 
My pom had an issue when she'd get too excited she'd dribble urine. A sheltie breeder told me to check our food lable to see if it had corn in it. If so to find a food with NO corn.

I was feeding Science Diet weight loss which just so happened to be full of corn!

No I use "Castor and Pollux" Organic weight control. It has no corn at all and this has done the trick!!! My pom is 2 yrs old and had always done this, now she doesnt!

Might be worth looking at your food lable to see if there is corn and maybe changing if it does. It may not have anything to do with these early morning wake-up calls, but it couldn't hurt to look.
 
I think I figured it out. Since our daughter was ill, Snicker was very concerned about her. Since her passing, he has been sleeping in, most of the time. Thank you all for the concerns and ideas.
