Elevated beds

I'm on a experimental trial of homemade beds. Mine aren't chewers, they are diggers. And those ploufy beds don't hold up well to digging. When I went to find some stronger beds, I noticed that most pet beds no longer had zippers on them so you can take off the cover and wash it. Talk about planned obsolescence! I had an old memory foam mattress topper that just got replaced from our bed. Cut two pieces to size I wanted, stacked them so I had a 4" foam bed. Bought a throw at Big Lots for 10 bucks that matched the decor in the room, wrapped it tightly around foam and pinned in place underneath. Stands up to the digging and its easy to toss the throw in the laundry. Will see how it wears. Of course no bed gets used when its hot...

Bought a bed for Oberon when we first got him. He totally ignored it. Sometimes the cat would sleep in it. When Mercutio (our previous Samoyed) was young we got him a cushion bed. We lived in a two-story house at the time. He figured out how to play fetch by himself by throwing the bed down the stairs and racing it to the bottom, then dragging it back up and doing it again.

Minnie makes her bed every night, sometimes it takes a long time
maybe that's why she likes the big pillows with the tiny balls (Krøyer balls)

I have filled these balls in a cover and outside I have sewn a cover with a zipper so they are easy to wash.

But there should not be too many balls in - then Minnie can easily shape her bed.
I fill up a little more balls in it once a year.

Missy won a Kuranda bed at a flyball tournament raffle and she really likes it. Especially during the Summer when she tends to get hot a night. It gets a little circulation going since air can get through the bottom.

Her's is 35"x23" I believe. It's the indoor version. It's actually way bigger than she needs, but it works out because she likes to sleep on her side with her legs stretched out.
Oh yea so does the Orange Horror and if he is in my bed he must lay 90 degrees to me for maximum space.

Given that I got a bench on the end so he can go up and down easier you are correct (also for Sca so he did not jam his shoulders as hard going down, which he did most of the time anyway)

Haha I have an ottoman at the end of my bed that Missy uses to get on and off my bed and even as a bed for herself. She also likes to sleep perpendicular to the direction I sleep, to maximize bed space. Luckily she prefers to sleep in one of her many spots that isn't my bed. It's only been an issue when we travel, since she always sleeps in the bed with me. I guess that's where she feels safest, plus since she's touching me at all times, she can make sure I don't abandon her.
