Elijah's gallbladder surgery is 8/7

Update from the vet tech this morning, vet will call later. He has had stable vital signs all along, they did labs this morning and all is normal. He did not want to eat last night, and had a small amount of regurgitation this morning, so they gave him IV Cerenia. He then seemed interested in eating. The vet will call me around noon to update and discuss if he can actually come home today. Thankful, thankful, thankful to this vet group. Simply outstanding.
 
We decided, both the vet and ourselves, that he should stay another night. She had some concern about his vomiting even a small amount as they were weaning him off the IV pain meds and he needs to be able to keep down food, water, and meds. And she'd like to check his bilirubin numbers one more time tomorrow morning. As much as I want him home I know this was the right thing to do. As an RN I've seen people go home too soon after surgery and run into trouble, and his was a big one.

I bought an inflatable pillow type neck cone for him and I have an after surgery suit for him. It won't be fun keeping him so quiet for 2 weeks, especially with the other 2 still needing walks and playtime. We'll figure it out. I'm just so glad he's ok.

You definitely did the right thing Sharon! I know if that was my Piper I’d want him home with me but I’d know deep down he needed to be at the hospital to be cared for. I’m sure tomorrow morning can’t come soon enough for you.
That’s an interesting trick there Ron, one I’ve never heard of before! I know whenever I go anywhere with the dogs and Blueberry stays home (she still vomits in the car at 3 3/4) she practically jumps on the other dogs backs trying to check them out and where they’ve been. I’ll have to try that one next time!
