Excessive jumping,what can I do?

So...today a day long training session.

We have worked on "wait"..today,with some real progress.And also "no jump". I really was diligent all day with this,and I do think we have made small strides.
Work in progress! He is such a pistol :yes:

Yay, awesome
What I would recommend is to actually PUT jumping on Cue...
So that you can get some control and he gets to do what he loves still :winkgrin:
For example get him to jump up into your arms on queue, how much fun will that be for you and for him, without trying to always just do the calm stuff with him, lol

Another idea would be to start teaching him a 2on2off contact at the base of the stairs with a target plate. This way you can teach him to travel to the base of the stairs as a correct behavior and you will have a head start on your contact obstacles when you start agility :biggrin2:
 
You could get him a parachute back pack! :razz: Sorry, that's no help. But it made a funny little mental picture and today I am feeling just a little bit mental... :biggrin2: How about a SuperDog cape?!
 
Wish I'd thought to ask this question when Epic was a puppy!:rolleyes2: He was hurling himself everywhere and leaping across the furniture and other dogs. He still does, come to that but I was worried he would do some damage being too young to be jumping. There are some excellent suggestions here so I think I'll give some a go too.

I wish Epic could meet up Blake and your other lively shelties, they'd have a ball together!:lol:
 
Thank you everyone for the ideas. About the only thing I managed today was working on "wait". I was in bed most of the day with a migraine.

Hi , my suggestion would be to hire a dog trainer if you can afford. Shelties are very smart. One day session might be quite enough. A trainer would give you a best advise. :smile2:
