Extreme Fur Loss

What happened to my post? Augh!

I just wanted to make sure about two things so your bases are covered. :)

Thyroid - is it "Sheltie normal"? I'm just making sure since many forget that Sheltie normal isn't always in the "test normal". If you're unsure, you may want to look into sending a blood sample to Dr. Dodds.
Cushings - did you do the 8 hour test? I know with Miko, that was done because it's more conclusive than the regular one.

Have you tried that supplement, omg, what is it called that everyone here has used and loved. Oh jeez. um......anyone? :( Or talk to the owner as they always had suggestions on what to use for XYZ, etc.

I'm sorry you have no definitive answers, but I'm glad it's just hair loss and that she's fine otherwise. Poor Bailey. I can only imagine how hard it is to see her like that. :(

Hey Chery!
I've sent ,uktiple thyroid tests to Dr. Dodds. She said it is not thyroid.

We did the 8 hour Cushing's and Adrenal ACTH test multiple times. Normal cortisol and high sex hormones.

Vibrant Pets? Yes, age was taking it for years, but I stopped after her neurological episodes starred.

I just ordered a new supplement, so we'll see how that goes.

Thanks for your suggestions!

So glad to hear it. :) I assumed you would, but figured I'd ask. Poor Bailey. Shall I knit her a Sheltie sweater?

The vets are big on coconut oil. Did the vet take a skin scrapping just to see if there is any parasite on the skin? I dislike saying this but it could
be an immune problem. Lil' Lady had some problems but finally with a shampoo and earth bath it all got straightened out. She had one spot that
we used Kroger brand athlete foot cream. Bam it cleared up. Was some sort of fungus. Its so hard because when it comes right down to it, I call
it a process of elimination.

We've tried coconut oil, but I actually felt that it made it worse. The dermatologist did skin scrapings from multiple areas, which turned up nothing. I started her a few weeks ago on vitamins in case it is a nutrient deficiency, but so far she looks like she is losing more fur. :(

It certainly could be immune or hormonal, but so far nothing is working.

Randi, I'm sure you've answered this before, but how many vets has Bailey seen? I'm just surprised that no one has come up with an answer. Are they as desperate to find an answer as you are? Do they admit to being baffled?

Bailey has been to 3 vets--- my local vet, an internist and a dermatologist. None seemed desperate to find an answer or seemed to be baffled.

I was thinking about Bailey. This is the shampoo the vet sold me for $36 and the cost from Chewy.com is $16.07
I shampoo and leave it on for 10 minutes when Lil' Lady had problems. In between I use Earth Bath Tea Leaf spritz.
Lil' Lady had one spot that looked like a fungus. What cured it was CHEAP Kroger brand athlete foot cream.
I just can not get over 3 vets and they can not come up with a solution, or give you answers.
I am getting to believe that some vets and some human doctors do not want liabilities. So no answers.
Hoping Bailey can get in the right direction. I feel bad for both of you.
