eye discharge

hey everyone!
So last night Luna had a bit of green eye goop in her one eye. This morning we woke up and of course, there is more today, and her inside corner is pretty bloodshot. So we called the vet but our appointment isn't until 5pm tonight. So i've been just using clean washclothes with just water to wipe away the green goop and hopefully try to flush out whatever may be in there.

I am kind of panicking i wish we could get in sooner but i have class all afternoon so we have to wait until 5. i'm assuming they are going to send me home with eyedrops so i don't really want to go out to the store and pick something up. any recommendations for trying to flush her eye she obviously just closes it when i go to wipe it. should i just pour water over her eye via a cup or something?

Lexi's had a couple eye infections and I used a warm washcloth, too. I tried to flush them out with water, but it didn't seem to do much good and she was mad at me for a bit afterwards ().

Hopefully it's nothing--both times Lexi just had something in her eye that had rubbed the wrong way (once it was sand, and once it was distichia).

Warm wet washclothes until you see the vet sounds like the right course of action!

Let us know how the vet goes, please!

Warm water bathing, I used to boil water and let it cool down, and I used cotton balls. That way you eliminate the chance of spreading infection, new cottonball for each swipe. (Wipe in one direction only) I also used polysporin eye drops. Dexter had this once or twice in his 14 yrs.
Hope it gets better soon !

thanks everyone for the great ideas! I went and bought cotton pads because, ya I really didn't like reusing a washcloth, its nice to throw it away. I came home from school yesterday and it was like her eye was "glued" shut, she couldn't open it without a lot of cleaning... The vet thinks its pink eye, not something stuck in there so she gave us some eyedrops.

Last night was looking a lot better, she isn't getting super green really fast. This morning when we woke up there was a bit of discharge but it was more white/yellow and a LOT less than yesterday. So 7 days of eyedrops and hopefully shes good as new!

thanks for the support i love that about this place :)
