Eye question

So about a month ago I took Darcy in for a vet visit and the vet noticed that the bottom of his eyes were a little pink and on one side there was a little eye discharge. The vet proscribed him an eye cream twice a day until gone. This weekend we went back for our last set of shots and his eyes are still a little pink just at the bottom. Now they are wondering if it's allergies so they have him with the eye cream and a little Benadryl. Still pink!!!:uhoh: The also checked for hair growing inside and they said it did not look like it.

The breeder did not have his eyes checked b/c he was sold as a pet and will not breed, but the parents are clear.

What eye issues have you all experienced?? Maybe to give my vet input??

Sadie had a nasty eye infection when she was 5 months old. It cam on pretty quickly, all of a sudden there was green puss coming out of first one, then both eyes. I don't remember there being any redness, just watery and pussy. A round of antibiotic ointment cured it quickly.

Other than that we've experienced no other eye problems. Sorry if this isn't helpful.

I'd say if the parents are ok and there's been genetic testing of the parent's bloodlines as well then your pup should be ok too.

Lack Of Tears?

It didn't happen to MY Sheltie, but my best friends Sheltie had something similar...it was due to lack of tears being produced in the tear ducks. They prescribed her eye drops, and they seemed to help, but now she's going blind... I don't mean to frighten you. But seeing as tho it's being caught at a young age it may not result to that. I think it was just left too long(they didn't know what it was either)...maybe this is it, maybe not? But I hope they find out what's wrong before it gets too bad!

Back to the drawing board for me and Darcy about his eyes. We genertried the Halo eye rinse and continued on the eye cream from the doctor and bienadryl. So today the vet suggested some eye drops with antihistamine and when I went to the people pharmacy for it they wanted 90 bucks for a week worth of drops :eek2: I'm gonna call the vet to see if she can give a script for a generic. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

How is your pup's eye doing? Is it only on the eye lid or is there pink on the skin right below the eye? I caught something that was right above the eyelid (upper), but it could only be seen in the bright sunlight. The vet missed it because it was not obvious in his office or in our house.

The eye is still pinkish. It's is the skin right below the eye towards the nose. We've tried everything and still nothing. The new eye drops have stoped the discharge but still pinkish. I might take him to a specialist soon.:rolleyes2:

Chinook has an eye infection. I just noticed it four days ago. I use Colloidal Silver. I put some on a cotton swab and wash his eye with it and then I use an eye dropper and put a couple of drops into his eye. I've done this for two days now, and he is doing much better. I use it personally if I ever get sick or have an infection.

I sent you a private message to what I think this is. Hopefully it is on your site. If not let me know. When I noticed my girl, my vet knew right away. It can be cleaned up "IF" it is what I think it is. If it started by the eyelid, your vet would think it was just the eyes, and nothing else. When it is on the skin he should be looking for something else, as I have stated to you on your private message.

I feel so bad your in this situation with Darcy, let me know what the vet thinks about what I believe this could be. Darcy is a gorgeous pup!

Sending prayers that you get some answers to poor little Darcy's eye issue. We just finished having surgery for one of mine on her eyelid. One of the treatments I had to use was triple antibiotic drops 3x a day for 10 days. It really seemed to help. The drops were expensive, at $56, but I got them from my vet. I really hope you can find an answer...the not knowing what it is or what you can do is awful. It would be wonderful if Sable's suggestion can help you. Please keep us posted! Pats to Darcy.
