Fear Response?

Not sure how long you have had him, but since he was found as a stray, someone pitched him out of a car, probably near a bridge, hence the bridge/car fear.

If you haven't had him long, he needs to know he can trust you that you won't pitch him out and abandon him somewhere. My Grandma had a dog like that and it took months for the female JRT to trust our family on car rides.

It takes time, love and patience, but he'll get there :wink2:
 
Thats a good approach! Somehow seeing you dance around,singing..dancing,wheres the cookie..just makes me giggle.Thinking all these things we do to make our fur kids happy & content,secure.

With 4th of July approaching,we all will have issues with fireworks.as here in SC,they are not illegal,and sell them on every corner not just for the 4th either.

This past New Years was Trapp's first encounter with the blasted things,and I may say he did rather well.Slept on the bed with me that night,but no fear issues.
i'll be interested in hearing how ya'll handle fireworks with the fur kids~
 
Real Progress

I'll begin by thanking all of you for the support and suggestions as to how we might deal with Rob. It has taken work and time, but we are well on our way. I promised to report on our progress - so here goes. Rob now gets into the car on command without "forcing it". There is still some shaking, but we get him into the car crate and close the door, again without problem. Letting him know we are there, letting him see us, seems to calm him. We do not reward any fear behavior and stay calm ourselves. That really seems to work. Upon arrival at our destination he is praised for having been a "good boy" - which, of course, he likes. The trust level is better than ever, and not just in the car. We still have a lot to accomplish, but we now have no doubt about the outcome. We took him to a Sheltie "Reunion" last Saturday and he did beautifully on both the ride and at the event. We were very proud of him. Once again, our thanks to all. Kind regards, William
