Feeding Times and Restricting Bedtime Water

We currently have one Sheltie and one non-Sheltie (min Aussie) who sleep in the room with us. We feed them twice a day, morning and about 5 PM. We have tried both allowing water at night and restricting water after about 7 PM.

I am wondering what most of you do. Seems kind of cruel to restrict water at night but it also cuts down on the trips to the pee pad and subsequent cleanup. Also, have talked to a few other dog people who only feed once a day.
 
I always feed twice a day and honestly think it is healthier for dogs to have 2 smaller meals rather than one big one...even though it is a little more work for the owners.

I have never restricted water at night...but as long as your dogs are getting full access to water throughout the entire daytime hours it shouldn't be a health issue.

My previous dog = GSD from the approximately 8 months they got only one meal (supper) they always had access to water at all hours entire their lives with me.

Minnie is now 16 months old gets two meals - breakfast and supper.

When we are in the townhouse - the bedroom is upstairs and she gets a small bowl of water with for the night.

When we are in the summer house, she has access to the entire house and sleep wherever she wants and there is always fresh water in the kitchen.

So she has had access to fresh water at all hours since I got her as 13½ weeks.
 
Olive has access to water from 6am to around 2am but it's not always in the same room or floor as her. Her meals are divided up into four because of her "vomity acid belly" status.
 
I have always fed the Shelties 2 times a day...breakfast and dinner. They have total access to water until about 7 pm. I have a young dog (Collie) so I limit water after that time. It seems to work well for my situation.
 
Gavin has access to water all day usually. He self limits his water intake. Shelties are smart :) He knows he doesn't have access to the outside during the day while I work, so he doesn't drink much until I get home and then he drinks quite a bit.
