Fillion Update

He is 10 weeks old today and weighs 5.5 lbs. I am not a practiced stacker, but I think he's just under 9".

The Good:
He is alert, curious, and smart. He knows his name and comes when called, knows sit and down and will fetch. He doesn't seem to be sound sensitive (thank you lord). He slept thru the nite without a mishap in a crate meant for an adult sheltie. He is funny as the dickens--his antics get me laughing so hard!

The Bad:
I don't even want to get started on the potty training rant raging in my brain because I will not do Fillion any good in jail for matricide!

The Weird:
After a week of going for walks, following along behind me like a champ, he suddenly started throwing a fit on the leash when leaving the house. I can not snap him out of it. He will walk a few feet then cry and throw himself around like a trout on the end of the line! When out in the field off leash his follows me perfectly away from the house. After we walk and explore a while, I hook him up and he trots next to me like he's known heel all his life as long as we are heading toward the house! Change direction and he starts all over again! Like a stable sour horse...:confused2:

I got frustrated with Photobucket, so I hope his album on FB allows anyone to view.

He is very, very cute!

Try not to be so hard on him with potty training. He is only 10 weeks old. He doesn't even have full bladder or bowel control yet. At that age he can probably only hold it for 2-3 hours. Just try to stay on top of him. If you can't watch him, crate him. Take him out after a long nap, after he eats or drinks, after a play session.

Don't let him run around the house until after he makes outside. And bring treats with you outside, so you can praise and reward him immediately. Most puppies are not fully potty trained until they are a few months old. Some take even longer.

Good luck!

Very cute puppy. The crate and x-pen was MacGreggors main living spaces when he was 10 weeks old. Just keep with the training and he will learn. Good luck.

Thanks for the advice...I want to point out I wasn't mad at the puppy--I wanted to kill my husband  I was ON it and Fillion had one or less accidents a day in the house and none at nite. Then I took two hours to go to wally world and left him in my hubby's charge in stead of crating him. Fillion cried at the door to go out (he knew to do that already), he lets him out and he pees. 10 min later he cries again but hubby wouldn't let him out! He had just been out and couldnt possibly have to go again! So of course he pees and poos on the area rug in the house, and its all been downhill since then. Can't believe two hours could undo everything, but it did! Back to square one--'cept now he thinks the house is ok to potty in...

Try teaching him to ring a bell when he wants to go out. We did this with Dickens and it worked very well. All you need do is hang a string of jingle bells from the door handle, and jingle them whenever he goes out. He'll catch on in very short order, and start ringing them himself. Watch him at first, because he may just "nose" them, but once he's got the hang of it, he'll jangle them loud enough to get your attention from anywhere in hearing distance. Here's a photo of Dickens sitting at the door beside his bells:

Fillion is so cute! Don't worry, 10 weeks is very young and you have already received wonderful advice from other members. Keep taking those pictures, they grow so quickly :smile2:

Have a great weekend!

awwww he's so cute!!!!! I like the solar light standing picture  don't worry, I'm on the potty rant with my 12 weeker. it will get better! The leash thing, I'd try maybe baiting him into it.

Thanks guys! I restricted his house access to the den where we hang out all day and the kitchen. I thought potty training would be easy as he has easy access to outside via one of those magnetic screen doors (as seen on tv LOL), which essentially turns the doors into a giant doggie door. With our beautiful weather we leave the door open all day! I'm also considering leaving him outside when we go out for a bit. He's out there most of the day anyway. He has the 30' x 12' covered patio plus the small fenced in area off the patio for pottying. He can't get out...
