First AKC Trial Results

Good job! Don't fret about the weaves, or other stuff. I'm entering Zoey in an Intro Jumpers on May 25 at Hog Dog and I have no idea what to expect. Trying to talk my hubby into entering our other sheltie Bentley so we can film each others' run and post to SN.

Sounds like a successful first trial. I mean, 1st place and a Q in JWW? Awesome! And a teeter fly and one visit with another dog is pretty darn good considering. You and Bailey have come a long ways (darn link was blocked, boo). I'll watch the video later.

I would say, overall, most of the courses are becoming more challenging. Its already a rumor that they're going to do away with long lead-outs (since it's taking too much time).

I know the feeling about a reactive, scaredy cat. Koji was the same. It's amazing how far they come. And don't worry, one day, Bailey will run and not care one bit about another dog or anything. Well, at least in the ring.

Congrats on the Q and the good Standard run. I personally think that's great for a first time.

I love how Take4roll10 says that agility has given Bailey confidence. I am so excited that they stuck with agility and found something that Bailey can be confident about. Our Vinca really made leaps and strides once she started agility. She went from a scaredy cat that would shut down, to a confident happy dog.

Yay Bailey!

Thank you everyone! :biggrin2: I am very proud of Bailey.

That was a really nice run. You and Bailey looked great. :smile2:

Tip I got for measuring is to get them up into the table as naturally as possible and not to push their front legs under their body. Ember naturally stands up tall but she was not a height risk.

With Diva I kind of plopped her down with my hands behind her front legs and as I did that she braced her legs out sort of rocking horse like and I moved away from the table. Looked natural but I know she was slouched some what. Diva needed 3 measurements because her first was under 2yrs but the second one the judge got her at 12 3/4" What? Last one and official height 13 3/8" That's better.:smile2: I can almost get Diva to 14" if I get her legs under her body like I was stacking her for the show ring.

I think Bailey was standing tall. Her front legs were very close together. Maybe next time I will position her in a wider stance, but the judge actually readjusted her, so I don't know if that would've helped.

I just read the AKC regulations and it says dogs "14 inches and under" jump 12 inches, so even if she measures 14" on the dot, she can still jump 12. For some reason, I thought your dog had to be under 14".

What's the best way to strip some of that undercut on her shoulders?

I know the feeling about a reactive, scaredy cat. Koji was the same. It's amazing how far they come. And don't worry, one day, Bailey will run and not care one bit about another dog or anything. Well, at least in the ring.

I hope so! In class, she will run off and bark at dogs. She knows all the dogs bark in cars, so the second I let her out of my car, she starts barking in anticipation.

Our first run was at 7:30am and the second wasn't until 1:30pm, so by the time we we ran in jumpers, she was doing a better job of ignoring all the barking and noises. I guess she just got used to it.

oh she looked SO good, cool, calm and collected and running with you!
So great to see you guys sticking with agility!!!! :D

And to think a year and a half ago, I was contemplating quitting because Bailey was terrified of the training field, wouldn't listen and spent the whole time sniffing the ground or running off in fear. You would never guess that now. She's come a long way.

I agree with all the rest...you guys look great. Hard to imagine it was your first trial. Bailey was so smooth and responsive on the course. And she was really motoring through it! Hehe...I had to laugh about the hat. The things you realize at the last minute, eh? I always wear a hat because it keeps my hair out of my face. I remember panicking right before my first run that 'maybe hats aren't allowed!'...
