Not another poop thread!!!!
Let me start by saying I've been having a serious case of the puppy blues lately. I have a history of clinical depression so it's no real surprise to me, but I could find no postings on the topic here so I guess sheltie owners must not be prone to it. I'm 65 and took early retirement a couple years ago to help with my special needs grandson. My daughter, her 2 sons, and I share an apartment. My major retirement plan has been to train a sheltie for therapy.
Anyway this week Karma has finally been able to put paws to the ground. As I'm so tired of shredded puppy pads, I've been really waiting for this. So far this week Karma has peed fine outside but refused to poop. She would wait to get back to her x-pen and go on her pad within ten minutes of getting inside. The first day I made the mistake of crating her and in the time it took me to make a trip upstairs and down, she had pooped on her bed.
This morning I was ready to tackle the issue. We took a 3/4 mile walk. I know that's not much for most of you, but it's major for me. Brought her back inside and fed her. Snapped her leash back on and was prepared to stay out in the 36-degree weather (cold for AZ) for as long as it took. Finally ~ success! I made a very big deal out of it and I probably annoyed plenty of my neighbors, but I feel a bit more hopeful.

Glad you made some progress with potty training. It can be a long potty training road for puppies. Many take one step forward, then two steps back. So, don't be discouraged if your puppy still has accidents. Just keep making a big deal whenever he goes outside. Good luck!

Took me ages to figure that out!! Any mistakes are mine - I know that. It seems like the second you take your eye of them they squat! Keep us posted on your progress - it helps all the rest of us with puppies to share these things!
