flat grown up hair

My puppy is 17 weeks old is blowing out her puppy hair. The Grown up hair that is coming in is very FLAT to her body. I really want her to have a coat that stands up and goes forward Any suggestions?

I brush her every day or every other day. I brush it forward. I just can't get it to stand up and go forward. Should I be doing anything or is this normal? Should I be trying to fix it?

There's the other problem too- you have a girl. The girls generally have much less coat than the boys. She may never have a huge coat

And another thing to keep in mind, which our show folk can talk to better than I.....those super fluffy Sheltie pics that you see in show dogs is achieved through the miracle of "show products" (e.g. chalk or grooming powder).

It's also not uncommon for the full adult coat to grow in as late as 2 years!. My boys are both 15 months.....Bacca's coat is still flat and smooth, but starting to get length. Indy's is fluffy like a puppy, still.

Be patient! It will come!

I found the adult coat didnt really start growing in until about 6mths and you probably wont get an idea of its length until 12 mths so dont worry just yet.

Be patient!

 Suky looked more like a fox than a Sheltie until after 2 years old! Not only did his coat make him look like this, but his ears that refused to glue down added to the look! Now, we are stopped all the time with compliments on his beautiful coat. Just be careful what you wish for! Suky is a therapy dog, so he is brushed out every night, and once a week I take out the undercoat for over an hour!! Be patient, I am sure she will be beautiful.
