Flea and tick protection

I tried the Wondercide in all three formulas (Cedar, Cedar and Lemongrass, Cedar and Rosemary) and could not stand the strong smell. Neither could my dogs. Of the three, the least offensive was the Cedar and Lemongrass. I'd be afraid to use it on Pixie who is seizure-prone and reacts to strong smells like that so I haven't used it again. It may take care of fleas, but be prepared for the very strong smell.

We have our lawn treated with cedar oil by Tick Ranger and it's amazing how well it works to keep the tick population down, so clearly the cedar oil is effective. I can smell it on the lawn too after it's treated, but nothing like the smell from the Wondercide.

Thank you for all this wonderful information Dr. Mac. I have a question for you. Koji gets flea dermatitis. I'm not 100% sure if it's bites or spit that causes it. I just know the one time I found fleas on him, poor thing was a mess in his groin area. I was told the issue, cleaned up the flea issue, and he was fine. With that, you suggested Vectra, but I believe you stated that was a spray. I'd rather not use a spray as, and maybe this is ignorant of me of how this stuff works, but spraying a dog with that and then snuggling with them kinda turns me off. If I read your post correctly, I believe then, you'd suggest Advantix, is that correct?

For anyone reading this that lives in SoCal. I know when I left in 2013, vets had quit selling Frontline (Plus) because it was 100% useless in almost all areas. The fleas must have built a tolerance to it or something. I know we had a huge flea epidemic down there for about 2 years. Oregon, I don't believe has that issue, but I'm just wary, especially with Koji's issues. Just wanted to warn you, you could ask your vet about it to see if it's still an issue.

I used Frontline plus for years and loved it. Then one day we had a flea explosion at my house. It took three months of vacuuming three times a day, spraying the house with bug spray, but about a month in, it was getting worse. Found out frontline was useless and my cat was covered in fleas. :( I was very disappointed. We switched our cat to revolution and after another month and half they were finally gone.

I agree the smell soooo strong. I spray my dog outside right before bed, so when I wake up the smell isn't as bad, but yes still super strong. I also spray her right before long grassy walks outside. This will be the first summer trying Wondercide and I live in a high tick area. Recently, I spotted a tick on friend's dog while walking outside. My dog didn't have any ticks. I'm willing to sacrifice my nose to use natural flea/tick repellant.
