Fleas!!!!

Does your vet do flea baths? I know that used to be something they all did, not sure if that’s still the case but may be worth asking especially if you can’t use preventatives on Blueberry.

I was going to go to the vet today to get flea meds but seeing Canada Day was on a Saturday they’re closed today. This actually works better because my vet wouldn’t be in on a Monday anyway. Tried to call a pest control company but again closed today lol!
I did go to a local hardware store (everyone here in Canada is familiar with Canadian Tire) and I was able to find a fogger.
I will definitely ask about flea shampoos at the vet Ann…I don’t know how I’ll get it under control if I can’t use anything on Blueberry!
I’m going to leave a message for the vet to call me tomorrow…I don’t want to make an appointment to see her (doubt I’d even get one) for this.
I should add that every little itch I have my brain thinks FLEAS!!!:ROFLMAO: Even though I know sometimes an itch is just an itch lol

As a lighter side story decades ago I got a puppy from a co-worker. According to legend Mom was 100% Cocker Spaniel and Dad 100% Spitz. Now he weighed maybe 2lbs and looked like the end of a cotton swab. She warned me they had fleas so I put him in a box and dropped him at my parents store. I told them he had fleas so leave him in the box I will be by later to get him home.

Of course Mom could not resist and flea powdered him (think mid 1980's). Well he did not have fleas he HAD FLEAS! They were everywhere and according to mom coming out his ears and nose. So she paramited him (not supposed to be for puppies), twice. Thus his name Dow as in Dow Chemical. I joked for years she brain damaged him as he was a total wild thing (my fault) until he passed at 14. At 10 people would ask how old and think 10 months as he was still crazy at 10 years. He is why I got Sca as I wanted another high energy dog. Dow would have been a flyball legend if I had heard of it as he was super driven and fast. Of course then I got the super proper (though energetic) Sca and the rest is history

PS I told her about the fleas. They had no idea and wound up having to bomb the storage shed they were in a couple of times. They were just so fluffy you could not see that the 2 you saw were really 200 fleas.

Loved your story about Dow…had a good laugh!
Last night after removing my bedroom carpet (had to lift my mattress) and remaking my bed with freshly washed sheets and blankets I didn’t allow any dogs to sleep at the head of the bed. I really didn’t even want them on the bed:ROFLMAO:…bad me lol. I moved the pillows on the other side so they blocked 1/2 the bed. Poor dogs…Blueberry was walking around looking for a comfortable place to sleep on the floor but there weren’t any as no more carpet or dog beds (took them outside). I did let them up but they didn’t have much room.
 
So I picked up flea meds for Piper and Finnie and they’ve had their dose…they’re good for a month (I’ll keep them on them for 2 months) and it should kill any on them and stop the cycle. Problem is Blueberry. I’m just waiting on a call from the vet to get her advice.
I did flea bomb the upstairs and will be doing the downstairs next…problem there is my 94 year old mother doesn’t go out often so I may just have to do one room at a time.
Dog beds are washed and they’ll be happy about that! I removed my bedroom carpet and now without it the floor is slippery and they don’t want to jump up during the night. Now at least they each have a bed to sleep in!
These fleas have turned into an expensive problem! With all the cleaning and vacuuming (it certainly did get me doing a major spring cleaning haha) and special shampoo/conditioner and flea bombs and flea meds it probably cost me upwards of $250!
I figure this had to come from the last dog show we attended in May. We don’t do dog parks, no classes right now but Blueberry did stay with the handler for the weekend (she said her dogs are on a preventative but she did have a couple other dogs with her she was also handling). With all the dog shows I’ve attended over the years especially with Piper where we’d be there all day I have never brought fleas home with the dogs!
Only other places I’ve thought of are 2 veterinary clinics I took Blueberry to…one was for her OFA hip X-ray and the other was for her eyes. I’m still leaning towards the handler as I don’t see how 15 minutes at a veterinary clinic she’d get fleas. Possibly but not as likely.
Oh well…at least tonight I can let Piper or Finnie sleep at the head of the bed:ROFLMAO: but not Blueberry lol!

There’s one dog bed and that one is easy to wash in my machine, the others not so much!
I’m more worried about my bed than theirs anyway lol!

Carpet in car? Either bring them in or put them in the garage.

The dog beds I washed at the laundromat are still in the car, I hadn’t brought them in the house and then you said I’d have to wash them again so I figured no way lol. They can stay in the garage for now. When I wake up in the morning I have 2 dogs on the bed anyways so 1 dog bed is good enough!
 
The medication Piper and Finnie are on is a big NO for Blueberry. There are alternatives however and I will discuss this with the vet if she ever calls me back!
