Fluid in the Chest

I hope Rasha will do well with treatment and have many good years with you!

Please keep us posted...

Well that's a relief! So pleased that things are looking brighter. I frequently think that really, when you consider how intricate and complicated living beings are, it really is amazing that things work as well as they do, the majority of the time. And when things do go wrong, thankfully there is often something which can be done.
I will keep you and Rasha in my thoughts and prayers too and hope for a good conclusion.

PS Just wondering if she was shaved for the ultrasound?

Thanks again for all of the thoughts. Yes, she was shaved for the ultrasound in 3 places. I had to trim up some of her fur today b/c she was looking rather silly! Still keeping a close eye on her. Hopefully we will have the results from the test on Mon.

Dr. Shelli - You are right on with what he told me. I just couldn't remember what it was called b/c he was very soft spoken and my head was still spinning from everything else. I will hopefully know the next step on Mon. I was hoping to get the results today but we will be patient and keep an eye on her.

Thanks for the update on Rasha. I am glad that it isn't something terminal, but rather something that can be treated.

Keeping you all in my thoughts!
Danielle

I'm so relieved that the they seemed to have ruled out all the ugly stuff.

I've been off the forum for the last week and only catching up, and when I saw your thread, I just about lost it.

You see, my forever pup, Timber died 3 years ago yesterday (He was almost 12 years old). All of a sudden he couldn't seem to breathe. I rushed him to the vet. They did X-rays and found fluid in his lungs - caused by a tumour in his chest. They decided to send him home with medicine to relieve the fluids as we prepared to talk about what if any treatment could be done with his tumour.

In hindsight, this was the worse decision ever. I brought him home, gave him his meds but within 30 minutes he was obviously getting worse. I called the vet and they told me to rush him to emergency. By the time we got there - only a 10 minute drive, Timber was dead. He had drowned in his own fluids.

Yesterday was the 3 year anniversary of his death.

Whatever you do, do not take it lightly. Fluid in the lungs in significant.

Hugs to you!

Offering prayers and all positive thoughts for your boy, that he has a ASAP revcovery and all will be back to normal.

Ok, so $850.00 later and we still do not know what is wrong with Rasha. The test came back and showed that the cholesterol in the fluid was not high enough to be Chylothorax. I talked to my regular vet and the vet that performed the ulstrasound and test on Fri. and both are stumped as to what should be done next. The vet from Fri. said that we may need to do a biopsy on her linning of the chest. I can't do that to her. Not to mention it is going to be at least a couple grand to do it. My regular vet said that she belongs to an online community of vets and specialist and that she is going to post everything and see if anyone else comes up with anything different. I'm at a loss. I don't know how to help her and it really sucks.

I feel your frustration. I am so sorry to hear this.

How is she doing now? Is she feeling better?

I know how difficult it is to have a dog poorly with unexplained symptoms and feeling so helpless. I will keep praying you have some positive results soon.
