Food Allergies?

Weird....normally if there is a food sensitivity it is either chicken or beef proteins or grains.

Have you considered a grain free diet, and a totally different protein source? Bison, Rabbit, Duck? Natural Balance is a pretty good alternative for dogs with food sensitivies. In extreme cases, they also have a Vegetarian diet.

Caro....I'm surprised that Deska had an intolerance for turkey...that is rare. And I would also question your statement regarding quality of Canadian food. I might be wrong, but to my knowledge there has NEVER been a recall of Canadian dog food. Acana, Now, Go, etc. have only ever produced top quality product.

I've found those many dogs do well with Now! which has a combined protein mix of turkey, salmon and duck, and is grain free.

To settle the stomach in the interim, consider feeding pumpkin or sweet potatoe mash. You can buy it canned at your pet store or bake from fresh. Don't use canned human.....contains salts and sugars.

Hope this helps.

Barb, Go! actually did have a serious recall back in 2003 http://www.fda.gov/AnimalVeterinary/NewsEvents/FDAVeterinarianNewsletter/ucm106235.htm.

I don't think Caro is judging Canada's pet food quality. She is just pointing out that the pet food industry standards are different in Australia than the US and Canada, so imported pet food have to go through a treatment process before distributed.

Miss, take a look at the ingredients from all the kibble you've tried that made him vomit and note which ingredients they have in common. That's how I found out my dog had an intolerance to kibble with chicken in it. It was the only ingredient that all 3 kibble I tried had. I switched her to food that didn't have chicken in it and then she was fine.

I know a few other dogs that are intolerant to Turkey, not a lot but I guess its not that common to use. Bit of a shame because it's one of the cheaper meats and I went and stocked up on it until I realised, so I was eating Turkey mince for weeks, and I don't even like Turkey.

I wasn't saying Canada or the US doesn't have good standards, it's just the import standards here are extremely strict. It's why so few of the products you have over there are available here, companies don't want to go through the strict procedures for approval to import. Being an island we have few of the diseases found in many other countries so there's extra demands for any plant and animal matter imported from anywhere (except NZ I think). But we don't irradiate human products (they are heat treated) so they really should stop doing it to pet food.

Hey everyone,

I'm going to check the labels to see if they have similar ingredients . Advance Puppy for small dogs and Eukanaba dermosis FP, both are wheat free :). There seems to be a trend for Aussie dog food to be wheat free at the moment ( or I may just have not noticed ! ) and I know not to get food that uses by products.

Caro, my tuppence and Rosie love turkey mince! More than anything! U was planning on feeding it to jacks but I'm reluctant to change anything atm. Tuppence cannot eat beef, it gives her the runs :( marrow from bones also makes her vomit:( I thought it was weird my shelties can eat chicken too because my sisters ****zu was allergic as was my other sisters jack Russell;0

Jacks seems good, no more vomits:) I'm just going to go slow with him .

Thanks so much!
