Zak will run after it and fetch it and bring it back but does not really catch it yet. I can throw short throws and he will catch it. How do I get him to run out and catch it? I meant to ask the vet yesterday but how high should I allow him to jump now, don't want him going crazy and jumping to high.

As to the catching long throws...just practice. Start throwing it longer and longer until you build up to much longer throws.
And for the jumping...I can't really control how Lexi jumps for the frisbee. She jumps like a mad woman...but maybe others have a way to keep it under control.

Only thing I can do with Sca is keep the throws low so they go out over his shoulder and he has to catch them rather than leap. That said we played a ton just this afternoon and now Sca is across my shoulders chilling out (well actually still huffing and puffing
)

One of the most important things to teach right off is a "go around". If your dog is going out,in anticipation you alomst have half the battle done.
Teaching a go around really is not that difficult.But it will teach him to know when you are in the release stage,and he will go out,and be looking for the disc.
I throw left handed to Trapp.So he automatically goes around my left leg,I bring the disc around my back,transferin the disc from left to right hand,then left again to release.At the time I release the disc,Trapp is gone.
I throw alot of floaters.Many of the times it is just floating above his head,and pretty straight. Not many throws are high,so he has to only leap a small amount,but he will go anywhere the disc is,and will catch 95% of the time.
My suggestion is to watch some videos on YouTube,they are really helpful.One guy in particular is amazing,an has great vids for beginners & also advanced. I will try to find one of his,if I am not badly mistaken his name is Zak~
If you eally want to be somewhat good & Zak is loving the sport,I would also suggest a good disc.They are not really expensive,an believe me they make a world of differance than a disc from walmart,petsmart.
I do know one thing,the forst time or so that Trapp caught it..the light clicked on in his pretty little head.He knew he did a terrific thing,and was so determined to catch it.It does make a differance if they have drive,and are interested.

I'll take second worst thrower then. Cran still runs after it and brings it back- no catches yet. Dixie just tries to steal it on the way back.
