Jack is one year (and one month) old. His coat, while building, is not exactly 'fluffy' yet. I was glad to read someone say that it could take two years. I was beginning to worry. His dad is Jade Mist Memorandum, who has a giant coat. So, I hope that Jack inherits some of that.

Jade Mist

Memo is gorgeous! I have a friend who has several dogs from Carol Howell and all of their coats filled out nicely.

I would be happy if Jack looks like his dad! And it'a a small world, isn't it? I recently met someone whose female sable is a half-sister of Jack's (with the same dad.)

Layla looked like a show Sheltie in miniature from 6 months. Bitsy Boodle looked like a coyote built by committee until she was over a year. Now Layla is a silky, full coated Sheltie and Bits looks like a tribble! Every Sheltie is different.

I just had to laugh! I haven't thought about a tribble in quite awhile!! Our rescue Sheltie has the most beautiful coat and markings. I just wish she didn't have orthopedic problems.

A small world

A small world indeed! Of course, Jade Mist has had some very popular stud dogs! My boy is bi-black so I didn't think I'd run into many recognizable relatives of his but just last weekend I met his uncle at an agility trial.

love to see pix of the tribble

When I first got Bella she was a pitiful site. Her hair was very thin, and she was extremely underweight. The people that had her were feeding her really cheap dog food, and it had her in a mess. After a trip to the vet, and some new food we started getting her straightened out. She has put on some weight, and her coat is getting really thick, but no real length to it yet. Jackson on the other hand is nothing but fur. Thank God for a rainbow vac for all the fur around here. But hey...Isn't dog fur a great fashion accessory??:lol

Jade Mist Memo

Our Sheltie's dad is also Jade Mist Memo, his mom is Casmor Marla. Chase is a beautiful (6 months old) sable and already has a very thick coat. Memo sure does get around!

I was actually wondering what type of brush or comb does everyone use. Does anyone recommend a furmanator?

also, does anyone ever trim the hind area - Chase occasionally has cling-on's that I then have to wash the area...just wondering as this is my first sheltie and we are in love with him.

From what I've heard, the FURminator is a thumbs up.

I've never tried a FURminator, but I have seen one Sheltie owner on Dogster highly reccomend it several times. They say that you have to be careful that it doesn't cut the fur too much though, because it is a blade.
