Sheltie Coats and the Furminator

My parent's sheltie Milo didn't get his full coat till he was 3 years old. We'd pretty much given up hope when he suddenly seemed to bloom :)

Sadie's fur is thick but still short, she's nine 1/2 months old now.

This is a link to Sadie's photo album for those interested.

I have a furminator and LOVE IT! There is a furminator thread now in grooming for those who want to read more. I've already gushed about it there so I won't bore anyone in this thread :)

Hm, Chase is almost two and doesn't have a biiig huge full coat, it's nice but not nearly as thick and long others I've seen. I think it might never come with him, but we'll see what happens in the next year.

I had a 7 month old Sheltie here for a week with the thickest coat I've ever seen (would have been fun grooming that), so I guess it varies quite a bit!

How long, how thick, is all genetics. I have two males that didn't develop a rally big coat until they were 3 years old, yet I have a young sheltie bitch that is more coat than dog and has had this coat since she was 4 months old.

Gavin is almost 3

and while his coat is nice, it's not big and fluffy like the show dogs.
He was pretty scraggly until he was about a year old.
I don't know if he will ever grow in more, but I like his coat.
easier to take care of and cooler :)
