Fur behind my pups ears dying?

Mine get the matts back there too! grrrrr:mad: The fur behind the ears is very soft on mine so it mats very easily.

Thanks for all the replies! Its not so much the matts that bug me though. The fur is so soft it tends to get wavey and just looks weird against the rest of her fur. I think that it makes her look dirty! I will definitely have to start trimming it back so you can't see it from the head on and try the larger tooth comb also. I always used a regular slicker brush.. Maybe that is what is making the fur wavey? Thanks again!

Oh yeah. I'm always being asked, "why do you crimp your dogs hair?" Ohmigosh, it's natural. I don't do anything!! And no, the fur is wavy cuz its wavy. Doesn't matter what kind of brush you use.

I'm curious for all you older dog owners. Miko used to have this issue as a "pup". But now that he's older (prolly after he hit 3-5yrs) he doesn't have this problem anymore. The hair is fine, but it doesn't knot nor crimp like it used to. Any ideas?

Hi There,

I have found that the texture of the fur changes as they get older. Puppy, and young dog fur is wispy-er, softer. As I mentioned before, keep it trimmed to blend in with the ruff, I know it wants to hang down, and use baby powder to absorb the oils around the ears.

Slicker and baby powder. That's the key.

The baby powder removes the oils to seperate the fur and the slicker fluffs everything back up again.

When necessary, bring out the thinning shears to work out the matts, but mostly I find I can deal with those with the comb and/or slickier and/or long pin brush
