Garden guardian

Today's harvest. Willow goes where I go in the garden while I pick the ripe produce. She is fascinated by the whole thing and has learned to pick berries and peas for herself. Today we picked a lot of tomatoes as with the rain we had overnight they were starting to split and there is more rain coming. We also took ripe beans, a variety that starts out purple until cooked then they go green and look like normal green beans. They are prettier on the vine though.

Now they are in our giant saucepot being turned into seasoned tomato sauce for canning. After those get into jars, it will be time to pickle the beans with dill and chipotle powder.

My goodness look at the paws on that GP! He’s going to be a big boy.

Willow is doing great work on her squirrel patrol, it’s an important job. Our pups like to tag team the squirrels, one flushes it out, the other gives chase. Everybody barks.

It's been a lovely, much cooler, day today. We've been out in the garden, had a couple of walks, and visited the dog park for a nice run.

Dad, are you going to just sit there all day?

We count on, and encourage, Willow to chase the squirrels out of the garden. She loves to chase them up the fence and out. I didn't manage to catch her in the hunt but here she is just after the squirrel disappeared. She takes her task very seriously.

And finally, at the park with a brand new friend, a five-month-old Great Pyrenees puppy. At this point, she'd already been running flat out around the park with Ponyo, the little white dog you'll see briefly in this video snippet.

I am so jealous you can let yours chase squirrels. It is not quiet and I live in a suburban housing tract. Houses too close together for that. It is the bane of my existence sometimes, keeping them quiet enough while antagonized, literally, by squirrels

Yup...I just have to say SQUIRREL and both dogs go running barking! My sister (who has cats I might add lol) said 'I'm surprised no one has complained on you' but they're only outside when I am and there are LOTS of dogs in my area, plus we all try to be neighbourly...heck, my neighbor gave me a jar of pickles yesterday. No one does that anymore (I've given him fresh bread when he shovelled my driveway).
Lovely harvest Glenn! Sad, I'm going to have to pull my garden probably this week. Nights are getting so cool and September here can be really nice or really cool and it's starting out crappy. Bumper year for my tomatoes (of course the squirrel got to quite a few) and my peppers were amazing! I had a mystery pepper (my sister had given me some hot pepper plants) and after googling much I discovered it was a cherry bomb pepper...very cute but not for me lol.
Hate this time of year, putting everything away for winter:bigtears:...

I'm hoping for a late frost this year as I have much to process even tackling something every day. LOL Willow has learned that cherry tomatoes are fun to eat. At this point, as we have hundreds of the little gems to harvest, I don't mind sharing. I am going to try out a pickling recipe for the cherry tomatoes, should be interesting.

that's an impressive harvest:yes:

were you the one who said they had a recipe for dill pickles?
No, at least I don't think so as I haven't made cucumber dills for a few years. Although my table cucumbers did well, the pickling ones did not for some reason this year.
