Gavin is getting a pool

Sharon I can’t imagine living where you do and not having AC…I can’t imagine living where I do without it! Believe it or not our temperature here can fluctuate from -35 C in the winter to +35 plus humidity in the summer! I have a portable AC and a fan AND a ceiling fan going at night:ROFLMAO:! No complaints from the dogs lol.
Strange weather with this global warming…I’ve noticed this year our trees still have yet to start dropping leaves (we tend to not get so much of the changing colours, they yellow and fall) and normally they start in August! Hopefully a warm fall.

As with Cindy, we've never needed it more than a couple days a year typically. We live so near the coast, about a mile away, that mother nature's air conditioner, an ocean breeze, keeps us moderate. We have a very Mediterranean climate here normally, but hey, nothing's normal anymore. We may have to look into getting A/C or at least a ceiling fan.

Hope you get some relief soon!

If you are only using a bit, these portable air conditioners work really well. You aren't committed to a specific room or window so you can move around, you can tuck away in a closet when not in use. They do require window access though. Our oldest used one a few years and our youngest has been using one in his dorm room these last 3 1/2 years.

my windows are 70" tall. I'd need to get a sliding glass door kit on top of a portable unit (probably 2, one for living room and one for bedroom If I move it). and tbh until now it was never all that bad here. at least by the time next summer comes around, Gavin will probably not be here to suffer. It just seems so silly to buy a $400-$500 A/C unit when it will get used a few days a year. A friend had one for her attic office, i remember it as noisy.

last night and this morning he laid out on the patio sleeping for a while. He moved himself inside so I know he's not hot now. and he's in his dog bed as opposed to the floor. supposed to cool down tomorrow so 1 day to go! that makes is 3 super hot days of 90-100 with it not cooling down until 8PM, preceeded by 3 days of maybe 90 tops which weren't too bad (definitely not going outside for walks though).

time to close up for the day!

Are your windows sliders or do they open up and down? My portable unit came with a window kit, I have a slider window that’s probably 4 feet high and the window kit fit with even more room to expand further. If the open up and down the kit would’ve fit even better lol. I only use it in my bedroom but being that it’s on wheels I could move it if I wanted. My only wish is that I’d gotten one that could convert to heat but I didn’t know that was an option (my upstairs is cold in the winter).
One thing I find is that the filters on it are inadequate to catch all the dander from the fur! It has 2 filters which I’d clean (as per the instructions) but it suddenly wasn’t blowing cold! I took off the filters, got my flashlight on my phone and looked inside and saw so much dog hair and dust on the compressor! I had to get the vacuum and clean the inside (which wasn’t easy getting into the tight spaces). Perhaps however with only 1 dog it wouldn’t be as bad lol!

they slide horizontally. so that is over 5 feet of a slider, hence a sliding door kit. and oddly enough, the opening sides are not in a great place logistically (behind the TV?).
but the heat has broken with an expected high of 80 or lower the rest of the week. we went on a stroller walk this morning :) which is great since it hit 100 yesterday.

Glad to hear the heat wave has finally broken! It’s been cooler here as well and as much as I like the portable AC it is noisy and it’s much nicer having the windows open and getting the fresh air! My second floor has a window on every side (north south east and west) so I get a nice cross breeze and the dogs are nice and cool. I also sleep better without the noise of the AC so that’s an added plus of no air conditioning!
