Genetic testing

Smudge

Forums Sage
I made it known a while back that since Smuff was not genetically tested for anything that I was going to do it myself. Smudge has already been tested for MDR1.

Fluffy's birthday present came in the mail today. Guess what it was. Go ahead. Guess. :biggrin2: An MDR1 test kit! Ta-daaaaa! *confetti falls from the ceiling*

I am not sure if the Responsible Dog Ownership Day that is coming up does the CERF test or not. If they do I will look into that as well. On their website it says that a dog has to be microchipped to get entered into their database. So I guess this means I can only test Fluffy, because Smudge does not have a microhip yet. If they do not do the CERF test then I might wait until the dog show next year and get them both done at the same time.

You just made me go pull my old CERF forms!! While I dont send mine in to be registered, I did read the back of the form. They ask for a Chip # but they also ask for AKC reg # As well as a DNA#. I think as long as you have their AKC # it can be registered. Just and FYI though you dont to pay to have them registered. I have copies of each CERF on my dogs in their folders.

My dogs were CERF by their breeders at 7wks(along with the rest of the litter) before they went to their new homes and they weren't mircochipped. I didn't sent the puppy CERFs in and still have the copies. The last one I did with Diva at 14 months did have a space for mircochip and that one I sent in. I didn't need the microchip # to get it done though.

I will ask when I go do it. Maybe I misunderstood, but I thought for sure it said on the CERF website that the dog had to be microchipped. :uhoh:

I still can't figure out if they are doing the testing at the RDOD, but if they don't then we will just do it at the Texarkana show next summer.

from CERF's website.

Starting from January 1, 2001, CERF adopted a policy that a permanent identification in the form of DNA profile, microchip or tattoo will be needed for any dog to be registered. Dogs not permanently identified will continue to be registered, however, they will be issued a CERF number with the suffix "N" indicating that the dog has no permanent identification. For example:

With permanent identification LR-54321
Without permanent identification LR-54321N
Please notify CERF when your dog receives a permanent ID and we will update our records and re-issue your certificate.

I had both Dusty and Belle's eyes checked but never sent the papers in, I just put them in their folders.
