I wish I could get him in a crate in the car, as it would be alot safer for him, if I crate him he Hurls almost immediately same if I put him in the doggee seat belt harness, which is my preference and I have used with the other dogs for years. The only sucess I have had is letting him stand free. I made a custom board for the back seat that makes a wide flat area for him to stand on & carpeted it with indoor outdoor carpet scrubbable, so far that's the only way I have been able to transport him with reasonable success, & certainly not how I would like to. WE were having much better success with short trips, 30 min & under till just recently. but on long road trips I usually plan on a couple of clean ups, we have tried special pills from the vets 2 for $20 actually made him worse, gravol, stress drops, not feeding before trips, pretty much everything we can think of at this point. He just doesn't ride well, but man don't leave me behind either.
I have a car seat hammock for the back seat. It attaches to the back of the front seat, so they can't fall into the seat wells if I have to stop suddenly. I have a cheap carpet that I lay across it to make it less slippery. It works like a charm.
The only issues is that they both need to be lifted onto the backseat. Because the hammock covers the seat well, they can't jump to the floor and then to the seat. The SUV is just too high.
My tubby Indy can get out no problem. Bacca, who is my "prize jumper" refuses. I have to lift him out. What a baby!
