Getting into the car.

Of course Blueberry ALWAYS managed to puke where I didn’t want her to. I could have the seat covered in paper towels or a seat cover and she’d lean forward and get the carpet…
I’ve tried in a crate, on a tether, front seat, back seat (she once puked on my coffee cup 🤮🤢)…I tried feeding her, not feeding her (once the threw up some banana she’d eaten 6 hours prior) and short trips and long trips. I’ve found short city trips are the worst…she can vomit a block from home and highway trips are always better.
Hence she doesn’t like car rides and I don’t blame her…I wouldn’t either if I got sick all the time! And she turns 5 in November and she still gets car sick!
That is because she needs a private jet

Destin was occasionally carsick as a puppy and grew out of it...
Davy was carsick on the way home from the breeder :ick- I did get him medication for it. Cerenia on long trips and meclizine for short trips...
Reggie was also carsick but they all outgrew it

I think three things are at play in these cases: 1. nervousness 2. car motion/noise - many of us suffer from motion sickness as well maybe some dogs do 3. I think the biggie is with sight dogs like shelties who want to know and control their surroundings things fly by so fast it upsets them. I was on the TGV in France one time it was going about 130 mph and I got sick if I looked out the window at nearby things- they were flying past soooo fast that I could only look off into the distance. I wonder for dogs like Shelties who worry about every small change it is often just too much??
