had a quick question for everyone about food. My girl Talley just turned 13 a few weeks back. She developed a liver infection this week and had to stay at the vet for a couple days. She seems to be coming out of it okay but I need to change her food. She's starting to not eat the canned food from the vet so I'm looking for a good dry food that would be good for her age. Any suggestions?

Check out dogaware.com Lots of information about food, and a section dedicated to liver issues. It may be a challenge to find a food she likes, so you may need to experiment a bit. You may even need to do home cooking to keep her interested. Be prepared, her interest may change at any time. Good luck, and keep us posted on your progress. Lots of people here that care.

Please be sure to add milk thistle to your girl's diet daily since she's had liver issues. It's the best natural supplement for the liver and kidneys, and will really help her especially after an infection. You can find it in drugstores with the human supplements. There are also a variety available online made for dogs.

Liver stuff tends to change the way food tastes making it more metallic. It could be as the infection heals her normAl taste will return.
I have a Senior dog with liver cancer. We went through this too. Each time what he liked changed. He eventually almost totally stopped eating... Until we discovered he liked our breakfast burritos when some fell on the floor. He had completely stopped eating food. Now we have been feeding him primarily ground turkey and potato and adding in some olive oil or cottage cheese and a vitamin. It's all he will eat. Once in awhile i can use canned but only temporarily. He's lived off this for nine months or so and it has kept him alive. He's 15 and 3 months.
