Goodbye sweet Lad

Thank you all. Lad was actually a dog I got for Mobius that was at a place where I was the accountant (yes a dreaded Pet Sore) Lad had been bounced from store to store for a very long time and apparently was marked as a shtie. I went to look at this sheltie that was not being sold and discovered why...he was huge. He was actually a sheltie collie mix. I grabbed him up and decided to give him to Mobius. Lad was 5 months old then He weathered many shelties, being overcome wirh carbon dioxide, and the death of his best friend Allie. He also had some mysterious illness that practically suffocated him about 4 years ago, that even the specialists could not diagnose.. HIs bloodwork 5 nonths ago showed him to be in tip top shape with just a slight issue with his kidneys. My vet said Lad would be very okd before his time came. Recently Lad had a growth on his ribcage that was making his breathing labored and he was rail thin, He had trouble getting up and down and keeping his footing. Lad's life was miserable and you could tell he was suffering.

Lauri, I'm so sorry to hear about Lad. He knows that he was loved very much and I know that he is watching over you both and the dogs too from the bridge. Hugs from me and wags and licks from the girls!

Aaah! You've brought tears to my eyes. I am so, so sorry for your loss, but at least you know that your pup is no longer in pain and suffering. My vet told me that Shelties have an incredible pain threshold and will trick us into believing everything is fine with them, when it's not. It was a tough decision you had to make, but he must have been in alot of pain. At least that is gone now.
This is exactly how my Timber died. A growth in his chest. However, in his case, he caught us by surprise. We'd noticed weight loss and some decreased lack of mobility. But the vet put him on Glucosamine and he rebounded quite well. Then one day last spring, I went home for lunch and he was having trouble breathing. Brought him to the vet who did an xray and found the growth in his chest but within hours he died.
He was my 3rd child! As many of you know, my daughter died in March and when Timber also passed, I thought I had all that I could bear. Then my sister told me that Michelle must have been sitting up in Heaven waiting for us all, and so she asked Timber to come up and be with her, while she waited for the rest of us to join her.
There was alot of comfort in that. So now Brandy has Laddie to keep her company while she waits for you on Rainbow Bridge. :sadsmile:

I am so very, very sorry about Lad's death. Perhaps my Lassie, my First Collie who died last July, was there to meet him. My heart still aches for my gallant girl, but I am so glad to even have known her. You did a wonderful thing bringing Lad home with you. We have to remember that these angels are only on loan. :sadsmile:
