Grass vs. Rubber

A private with Jenn is a great idea. Once I get a job (sigh) I'll definitely look into that.

Good Luck in finding one.I always hear how the economy is improving but I am like where.People getting laid off left and right and they say it has improved..Yeah sure.Dang agility tends to get expensive. When I first started agility the price wasnt bad but now it is ourageous the price for entering, trialing, training, and the gas to get there.I use to show Quarter horse and when I did that it was fun and not to bad but tnow forget it.Board is almost a car payment in some places.

You are so right! And the economy does seem to be just as bad as it's been. For many of the jobs for which I've applied, I've heard that they received 300-400 applications for ONE opening. It's awful! How am I to feed my agility addiction?!

Only as much as a car payment?? One of the barns I ride at is $1250 per month!!! That's a mortgage payment. And dont get me started about the job market....they're laying off teachers right and left also.

I have not noticed a difference in Riley running on either surface. Since it snows and is generally icky for almost half the year in CT we started training on the rubberized floors first. I hadn't noticed any issues with Riley slipping. We actually only glhad our second outdoor agility class last week, but apparently nothing fazes him. I do notice him slipping more on grass at the dog park when he's going full tilt, but I don't think he's been all out in the indoor class yet. I'll have to keep an eye out now.

Fake grass

I just had to update this thread to tell you about my dogs' experience with fake turf. Not astroturf like you'd see in an indoor soccer arena, but fake grass.

The dogs LOVED it! Bentley had his confidence back again (he had become slow and hesitant on the rubber) and was so fast that I was handling him totally wrong! (I'm okay with that!) and Lexi didn't slip and fall on her face once!

I would love to find a place where they hold trials on the fake grass like this. I think maybe Silaria's club has this?

Some of you may have experience on this stuff...and if not, I wanted to take the time to highly recommend it! The dogs treated it like real grass (except for a little bit of sniffing once they realized it wasn't grass!)

Fake Grass

There are a couple of soccer places here that have the fake grass and my guys have had no problem with it.That is great with Bentley.

Glad to hear Lexi didn't fall on her face and Bentley found his speed again. Now, was this for a trial? Are you still training where they have rubber flooring? Or did you find a new place?

This was at a new training facility. We are still training at the place with rubber flooring, but once our class is over I don't think we'll be going back. I feel bad because the people are really nice, but as far as information, it's just not what we're looking for.

I learned more in 1 class at the new facility than I did in the past 4 weeks at the old one. (I gave a little synopsis on my blog, if you're interested)

Hamilton Dog Training Club in Ohio holds their trials on such turf :) I love it. It's my favorite. I believe the Agility Club Of Indianapolis holds their trials at such a place as well.
By the way, was this at Jenn Crank's place? She just built an awesome new building....
