Grass vs. Rubber

Hamilton Dog Training Club in Ohio holds their trials on such turf :) I love it. It's my favorite. I believe the Agility Club Of Indianapolis holds their trials at such a place as well.
By the way, was this at Jenn Crank's place? She just built an awesome new building....

Thanks for the list of places...now they're at the top of my list!

And yes, it was Incredipaws' new building. So nice!

Is this Jenn Cranks place by the way? She just built a new building...
I know you aren't a fan of systems, but I think you will get a lot out of going to her place for training. She is very thorough and what she teaches makes a lot of sense. She is very good at teaching the mechanics, why and how to do things and breaks it down into each small step that goes into it, and handling. I have always gotten so much from my private lessons with her and the seminars I've gone to with her.

Yes, Jenn seems super knowledgeable. I'm really looking forward to the rest of our classes. I've learned so much in just two sessions! Now I'm really wishing I could find a job so that we could take more classes!

I would love to find a place where they hold trials on the fake grass like this. I think maybe Silaria's club has this?

Most of the local clubs around Pittsburgh trial in facilities with the fake grass.

Our September USDAA trial will be at the newest such facility in Latrobe, PA - B & D Creekside; which was build specifically for dog agility. There is also a three day AKC trial coming up on Labor Day weekend at that site. (I'm not sure if I can go to that yet or not. I'm waiting to find out if my in-laws are coming in that weekend. I want to; I have the premium sitting at home waiting to be sent in.)

Other local sites for trials in the Pittsburgh area with the fake grass are the Pittsburgh Indoor Sports Arena (PISA) and the Robert Morris University facility on Neville Island.

If I could find a way to make it up there regularly, I'd do it in a heartbeat. She's just such a great teacher. I'm looking into doing some of her upcoming seminars there if there is room left.
As an aside, I'm headed down to TN for a private lesson with Linda Robertson, who is another of Linda Mecklenberg's students this Thursday. A lady I run a dog for is sending me and the other person who handles her dogs. For doing a private with hers, we each get a private lesson with our dogs as well. I think it's going to be a great opportunity to learn from another very talented instructor.

We have an indoor soccer arena here with the fake grass. I ran Ember there last summer and she really liked the surface. She got her fastest times last year on it. I am entered there in a couple weeks I am so excited to see how she runs on it again since she is running faster now.

It is funny you should mention the rubber flooring. I was trying to understand why Diva acts like a maniac(she makes sloppy looping turns, can't hit weave enteries etc) at run thoughs on Mon night and why she is so good and controled(still fast actually faster) on Tues class. I think the difference is Mon is grass and Tues is rubber floors. Diva actually has more experience with the rubber floors and it is obvious she is more comfortable with them. She slips around on the grass more. I ran her once on packed dirt and that blew her mind. She was so slow and just wanted to sniff. So I think experience really does play a big role in how your dogs preform.

Ashley, you did post you blog a while ago but yep, I was too lazy to look. Oh, I am so envious, sounds like really informative classes. I have upcoming seminar with Agility Nerd Steve on crosses and serpentines, he is very methodical so am looking forward to it.
I have not done as much shaping as I should either but we did boxes, you might want to start with large box with lower edges, still defined though. This basket you shown in the clip has too much of response cost so that might be a problem.

Wow--can't wait to hear how your seminar goes! Sounds really interesting.

Thanks for the info about shaping, I think you're right. The size of the box made it really hard for her. I'll take a step back. Thanks for the tip!
