Green Beans: Canned or Frozen

I tried the fresh uncooked green beans this morning with Darcy and he was very interested but non gotten eaten just played with. Tonight I will try steamed.

I guess every dog is different. When Indy was younger he would "help" in the garden; one of his favorites was to pick the beans off the lower levels of the pole bean vines. He was very good...he didn't bite through the vine; he'd carefully clip the bean from the vine and eat it. Emma is not as kind...given the opportunity she will crack open a watermelon and eat it rind and all.

Oh, pictures, please!

Granite, Lexi is a watermelon lover too. This weekend I had cut the end of a watermelon and eaten some of it. The rind made a bowl and of course plenty of juices were left over. She jumped up on the couch and dove right in and loved every minute of it. It's funny to watch because she loves the taste, but she is unsure of the texture, so she eats it so awkwardly. Onto green beans, Lexi loves fresh green beans after they have been washed or steamed. I rarely like eating canned veggies, so Lexi really hasn't had to opportunity to sample canned green beans. She's also a sweet potato lover. I had a long chat with my vet last time I was in to make sure all these little snacks are ok for her. He said as long as she had a nice balanced dog food, supplementing fruits, veggies, and small amounts of veggies is ok. Low fat plain yogurt is also high on Lexi's list.

I would use frozen instead of canned, less salt and like Lightplum said, just nuke them and your done. Actually, I think I would test Cooper and see if he would eat them frozen. My girls love ice so I think they would think frozen green beans would be a treat too.

We want to thank everyone who recommended frozen green beans. I'm pupsitting for 2 weeks and one of the dogs is a little overweight. I told his mom that I'd cut his kibble and add veggies to make up the difference. I bought frozen broccoli and frozen green beans. while cutting the broccoli into smaller pieces for the boarder- some pieces fell to the floor and my 2 dogs scarfed them up so now I'm giving them frozen veggies too. who knew?? This will be good to help Callie maintain her weight. :smile2:
