Welcome. Every one is right, it will just take a little time for him to adjust - bet you next month you will be posting how he is driving you crazy with his energy!

If he is used to being around a lot of other dogs you may want to look at puppy school for him, that will give him some time to interact with dogs his own age.

sounds like a sweetheart!
The key is patience and being relaxed, the dog will learn it soon enough...
As for food, I am pretty sure he will eat as Shelties do shortly, lol
Good advice from everyone, so I won't add mine lol (for once)
