Greetings from Tennessee

It is. I don't refer to her kennel by name as I don't have permission and would really hate to do anything that might offend her as she is a nice person. I contacted her about a buddy for Sca this winter. If everything goes well I will probably bring the moose up for a visit also as I think she will be amazed how big he has gotten. That is one advantage for him in racing, he is larger than one BC on the team and the same size as another. I could see the day he might be faster than Angel. If Sca ever gets titles in Flyball I will likely pass it along to her for reference.

Did you go by her place? Is it still Sable mania? I still think Sca thinks he is a Sable since all his aunts were.

I will have to drop her an email telling her she is supposed to be breeding ME a puppy not getting more for herself

Ha ha ha! I was also deliberately avoiding using breeder names, as per forum rules. :smile2: I have not been by her place, but I am sure I will, someday. If I can't get Lerwick's fox ears under control, I am thinking of contacting her to see if she'd be willing to help, since it's a 20 minute drive to her, and an hour and a half to my breeder in KY. His ears were glued when he came to us (the breeder started gluing them when he was 5 weeks old, I believe), we got him when he was 8 weeks old, and around 10 weeks old they had come undone. Of course, they started creeping up and up, and soon they were stick straight. I tried gluing his ears myself then, but I did a pretty poor job of it, and had to undo it after a week and a half, because he wouldn't stop scratching one ear (the one I messed up on), and was pulling hair out. I have since gotten a lot of great tips from this site (most helpful, especially the names of some good adhesive removers), so I will hopefully do a better job in the future. If not, I'll definitely be seeking the help of a more skilled ear-tipper! The clock is really ticking, as I know he is entering the teething phase soon and it will just get harder and harder to correct his ears after that.

I can'T decide which picture is the cutest! He is absolutely adorable!!! Welcome to the forum!!

welcome to our forums, I love your dogs name. He is cute!

Thanks, Karen! We usually get funny looks when we tell people what his name is (it is an usual name), so I was beginning to wonder if we'd picked a bad name. I'm glad somebody besides us likes it!

Thanks, Chris... I have a hard time picking out the cutest picture, myself. It changes from day to day. A tough problem to have, I know. :biggrin2: When we brought Lerwick home, one of my husband's friends actually had the nerve to say Lerwick was "so ugly he was cute." I just stared at him like he had lobsters crawling out of his ears or something. :eek2: I've never, in my entire life, heard that phrase used to describe a Sheltie before. Frankly, I question the man's sanity. :wink2:

as well you should:wink2:

I also have a smerle- Cranberry who will be 2 at the end of Nov.

Cranberry is lovely, Calliesmom! What striking colors. If Lerwick looks anything like his mother when his adult coat comes in, there won't be any merle coloration visible. We'll just have to see!

That Sheltie meet-up looked like it must have been a blast. Those were some happy doggies. :smile2: The photos of the one playing in the sprinkler really made me laugh. The Sheltie we had when I was a kid loved the sprinkler. Hated baths... but loved the sprinkler. Go figure!

Thanks. I saw my first sable merle at a dog show and decided it was a very pretty color. That smerle was also obvious splotched. so I thought that I'd be interested in having one- love the merles- and after reading here and other places, learned that smerles weren't always obvious. then I thought I wanted one that you would know that is what he was. so when he was born- I thought he'd keep his splotchy patches and I jumped on him.

Last week at Petsmart, we were in the checkout line and the lady in front of us said- oh a sable merle- you don't see many of those. and then she asked if he was white-factored- if he had white on his stifle. I told her no- he wasn't and no he didn't but I was pretty much in shock since most people- well if they know he's a sheltie I'm pretty happy - but to know about the colors and stuff- still a little in shock.

yes- the sheltie party was a ton of fun- it was our second gathering in SC- much sheltie fun was had by all

I know what you mean. I would also be shocked to randomly bump into somebody with that much knowledge of the breed. So far, everyone we've encountered who recognizes him as a Sheltie without having to first ask "Collie or Sheltie?" has had Shelties themselves. But hey, I'm always happy if someone asks "Collie or Sheltie?" since they're at least in the right ballpark. Most of the time what happens is that someone asks us what kind of dog he is, we say he's a Shetland Sheepdog/Sheltie, and they stare at us blankly, having clearly never heard of such a dog.

And there was the incident earlier this week when three boys came running up the street to us when they caught sight of Lerwick, because from where they had been standing at the other end of the street, they had mistaken him for a fox! Boy were they disappointed to learn he was just a dog after all.
